The rockin’ girls of chickBand come together to form a rare and exciting new opportunity for women everywhere. Answering the call to worship, these women have been, both individually and collectively, lending their musical gifts to churches and ministries for over a decade. They offer, not only the rarity of an all female band, but the energy and motivation necessary to bring women to a place of worship. Their gifts have been shared in such diverse venues as Sunday worship services, women’s retreats, rally’s, festivals, weekend conferences, and even prisons.
In 1998, though the majority of the girls are still involved in ongoing music ministries, the chicks answered God’s calling as well as a growing need in the women’s community. It became their goal to set into motion a ministry geared specifically toward enabling women to come together and worship. Being integrally involved in worship, it was clear that there was a need for songs that were more “singable” for women and more opportunities to provide live worship experiences at women’s retreats and events. At the same time, they wanted to break down some of the stereotypes that have adhered themselves to these events, thereby providing songs in new, and more comfortable keys, with a more edgy style. Looking around at the explosion of women’s events across the country, it was pointed out that there were few, if any, female worship bands/leaders involved in these events. Recognizing that women LOVE to worship and are hungry for powerful worship, the chicks endeavor to bring a new spark and energy to women’s worship wherever possible - a movement that the CHICkBand hopes will become a life-changing event for women everywhere.
While the idea couldn''t be timelier, it''s a dream the group has shared for years. The band is “super high-energy” and dynamic. They represent nearly every type of woman: single, single mom, young married, and married with children. They also range in age from 24-44! Not only are their lives and life experiences diverse, their worship also varies from contemporary to gospel to rock. The band recently (Dec. 2004) released their first worship CD. The new disc blends familiar worship choruses like "Here I am to Worship" and “There is a Rock” with new renditions of hymns and traditional songs such as “Ain’t No Rock” and “Show Me Your Glory”. In addition to these favorites, the girls added original songs including “Dance in the Rain” and other new fangled arrangements bringing their own blend of spice to the project.
Though the group has already received great response from their experiences hosting citywide women’s conferences in Las Vegas (Ladies Day Out â€" 4 years running & growing), retreats and special events in California, Nevada, Colorado, Wisconsin and Utah, and large conferences featuring nationally acclaimed speakers such as Liz Curtis Higgs, Sheila Walsh, Nicole Johnson and Robin Gunn (Sisterchicks), there is a desire to spread the ministry of women’s worship even further. The group has also hosted several outreach events in various women’s prisons and prison camps throughout Nevada. The band even included a background track of the praise choir at the Southern Nevada Women’s Correctional Facility on their recently released CD.
After years of dreaming and ministering at home, some may ask what made the timing suddenly right for the girls? “God is moving in the hearts of women and He desires all of His people to meet him at a place of “Excellent’ Worship!” Women need to be encouraged to lift their voices and their lives to God. The need opportunities to step back and find that place where the things we do in our daily lives, whether at work or in the home, can come together with harmonious worship of a God that desires every part of us to worship Him. Our God doesn’t need our worship (“...even the rocks will cry out...’), our God desires our worship!!!
