Details:
The road towards a musical career began early for Toronto born Cherelle Jardine. At eight she was introduced to the piano at a friend’s house, at fourteen she wrote her first song and three years later she began to play guitar. After a brief stint in a band environment, with AZ IZ in 1992, Cherelle decided to go solo. In 1994, Cherelle released her first full-length CD “Born Naked”. Working with Producer Gerry Gagnon. Cherelle put together a strong “official “debut. The pace of her advancement as a professional musician quickened, Cherelle was extremely active in the “behind the scenes” of BC’s musical community. Jardine became President of the Pacific Songwriter’s Association. In 1997, Cherelle also co-founded the Pacific Alliance of Independent Recording Artists, Cherelle was also a director of Women In Music, and Salmon City Music, a Richmond based music group.
Cherelle hardly paused for a breath before putting together a new band which would showcase the new batch of songs that were to pop up on her second independently released CD” Something good is happening” in 1998-an effort which received similarly glowing reviews as Born Naked. Produced by Rob Begg .
“Bleeding Water” was the 3rd CD in Cherelle’s body of work. Cherelle brought in some of the most respected names in Canada’s music community to help interpret her new songs-Bazil Donovan (Blue Rodeo), David Sinclaire (Sarah McLachlan) Jerry Adolphe (Chilliwack, Jim Burns), Robbie Steininger (Paul Hyde), Steve Hall (Farmers Daughters). “Bleeding Water” the title track was picked up on local British Columbia radio and “So Beautiful” was the 2nd release picked up.
Not only is Cherelle a musician and recording artist, Cherelles community work in Richmond BC has been ongoing, developing a strong music scene, creating venues for her fellow musicians to perform at- from her sold out summer concert series to her monthly music concert presentation “Musical Expressions”, Cherelle was nominated for an Ethel Tibbits Award in 2005 and 2006 for her service to the Arts and Cultural Community.
It had been 3 years since “Bleeding Water” and Cherelle was ready to get back into the studio. With help from Canadian music legends Blue Rodeo, Jardine flew back to Toronto and recorded 4 songs with band mates Bob Egan, Bazil Donovan and James Gray at their studio The Woodshed. Coming back to Vancouver with tracks engineered by Chris Shreenan-Dyck, Jardine brought in Ray Roper and David Wills of Stonebolt fame to record the rest of the songs for the project. Ray, David and Cherelle worked diligently recording the remaining songs and brought in Vancouver’s most prominent musicians, Jerry Aldophe-drums, Louis Nitikman-piano, Karl Watt-drums and Charlie Hase-pedal and lap steel. Roper played guitars, bass and organ and David sang background vocals and played percussion.
Head Traffic was released March 2006. “Bed of Nails” the first track on the cd was chosen for the Females on Fire Compilation Cd out of Los Angeles. “Head Traffic” is now on the International Pop Overthrow comp cd. For more info https://www.tradebit.com
