The original inspiration of the song "I AM THE CHILD YOU LOVE" was a intimate relationship between a little boy, Jacob, and a mom (Julia Boyd) who expressed her self doubt to God in prayer and God answered back through the gift of lyrics of the song...I AM THE CHILD YOU LOVE.
The confidence and reassurance of God''s love hit her while staring at Jacob from across the room one day. Being non-verbal or attentive, Jacob sat blank faced.
But when Julia sang the song to him, he turned and came to her, hugged her and smiled as if he understood the words. Tears fell down her face and from that moment on, Julia knew other children needed to hear this song. And what better way than to include children from her community in the process.
This simple event that was so personal and pure for both Jacob and Julia that it birthed a project to help other children understand what autism is and how it affects the family. The song also helped the children involved
believe what they were singing.
Over 100 children recorded the anthem/inspirational song. The album project made the song available for choirs or soloist who want original material for church or special events. The song also has a complete sign language version
available in manual form from a company called "Lesson Tutor".
The anthem has the potential to touch people''s hearts at the very emotional part of the soul. When children sing the song in public there has never been a dry in the house and there is always a standing ovation.
Bottom line, people need to know they are loved by God, no matter the situation or circumstance! Some children call it the "Jesus song", almost like the follow up to "Jesus Loves Me".
God''s message of AGAPE love is given and His spirit flows throughout the song. Humbled by the message, Julia understands the honor to be a part of this message and the privelage it is to have a child like Jacob.
Jacob''s sister Jackie was involved in the project and children still ask her about the song and how Jacob is doing. Jacob is still non-verbal but has begun desiring social interactions and everyday he does something new, which is a miracle in itself.
Even though the project helped the community understand Jacob and the Boyd family. It is still a concern that Autism affects one out of every 150 individuals.
Autism is the #1 development disorder in the country. There is no known cause or cure to date. Autism affects everyone, Everyone can effect Autism.
