MP3 Joel Evans - Wired

Melodic indie-rock - A streetwise Crowded House... An English Ryan Adams... The Eels in a good mood...

10 MP3 Songs
ROCK: 90''s Rock, ROCK: Acoustic

Details:
A 26 year old solo artist from Leicester in the UK, Joel Evans’ music has drawn favourable comparisons with the likes of Paul Weller, Gin Blossoms, Crowded House’s Neil Finn and The Eels.

In a nutshell… “melodic indie-rock fused with moments of William Orbit-esque electronica and the occasional quieter acoustic track”.

The story behind the album...

Originally a member of Leicester''s Mother Hubbard, Joel wrote and recorded his first solo cd - Different World - in 2000 after leaving the band. Despite a complete lack of promotion, and a distinctly home-made feel to the recording (most of the rhythm tracks were created on a Commodore Amiga computer, which even then was something of an antique!) it still managed to generate some interest, including very positive reviews in Total Guitar and the now-defunct Mp3 magazine.

After a couple of years of not-so-intensive songwriting, soaking up other people''s music, living, and pretending to do a degree at Leeds University, work began on the follow up to Different World in the Autumn of 2002 at Leicester''s Deadline Studios. With the help of co-producer and engineer Adam Ellis, and real live drums and bass, courtesy of Tim Brown and Tom Westmorland, the project began to take shape and was set to be completed the following Spring, ready for release in summer 2003...

Two-and-a-half years later, and the completed album - Wired - has finally arrived! During this time many of the original songs were ditched or re-written, new ones took their place, parts were re-recorded, lyrics changed and directions changed - and on several occasions the money ran out, and everything ground to a halt.

However, there''s no doubt that the 10 tracks that survived this evolutionary struggle have been worth the wait - Wired is an album that deserves to catapult Joel into the big time. From the crashing intro of opener Alone With You to the end of the final, Untitled track, it''s loaded with infectious melodies, well-crafted arrangements, and apparently simple songs and lyrics that gradually open up to reveal their hidden depths.

Now with an excellent live band on board, and an album to promote, it''s time for the world to sit up and take notice!
