I didn''t grow up with a dream to become a musician or someone who had the ability to move and impact people through music. Upon graduating high school, my parents prayed about a gift to give me for my accomplishment and a guitar was laid on their hearts. Since I had never been involved or ever showed interest in music, this gift came as a huge surprise. I began to learn simple chords and strumming from patient friends and taught myself how to play this unfamiliar instrument.
I took some time off from academia after high school and worked for an engineering company in the swamps of south Louisiana. During this time I was helping out with a youth ministry and realized that along with music, pouring into the lives of young people was something that I felt I was good at and that brought fulfillment to my life.
This led me to pursue a bachelor''s degree in Youth Ministry at Montreat College in North Carolina. I began writing music during this time and sharing it with friends over late night coffee in the dorms. By my junior year I was asked to be the worship leader for Montreat''s weekly chapel service where I gained experience in leading worship, experimenting with this new found gift. Still being somewhat unfamiliar with the whole music thing, doors began to open during my last two years at Montreat to travel the country leading worship and performing concerts.
While having full-time jobs in youth and college ministry since my Montreat days, I''ve continued to develop as a worship leader and recording artist on a part-time level. With thousands of albums sold and doors continuing to open to share this gift with others, I''m beginning to wonder if I''ll be doing more of this on a full-time level in coming years. We''ll see!
What still amazes me to this day is that from receiving my first guitar years ago to presently working on my third studio project, I''ve never pursued any of it. It has simply happened. This is evidence to me that God is the author of my life, this ministry, and the fact that He has not given me this gift to make much of me, but to make much of Him. My good friend Cary Pierce(Jackopierce) is producing my new record scheduled to be released this Summer/Fall.
