the janets– the janets (In-toX)
Rock and roll is alive and well and tucked away neatly somewhere in Tasmania it seems. That is if the janets debut release cd is anything to go by.
The term “you rock” seems a fitting riposte after hearing this impressive debut release.
The opening track ’song for janet’ eases you in with its smooth bass and intrigue laced lyrics, before jack hammer guitars join to begin this excellent adventure. The intensity moves up to 11/10 for the next track ‘ticket’. Bursting with chaotic energy and torrential distortion.
Rock sensibility steps in, in the form of ‘style’ and ‘he said’ as the guitars take their rightful place at centre stage, elements of early Iggy and the Stooges mixed with Pixies styling creep, tactile around the roughened edges.
The contagious beat of ‘pick it up’ kicks you along until ‘kind of got me’ switches the flow providing a brief interlude that is lurching yet catchy with an almost psychotic twist. ‘sleep in your bed’ picks the crunching guitar theme back up then a foray into pop sensibility via the strangely named ‘https://www.tradebit.comice’. ‘Sleeping Dogs’ comes on like some old time rocker chugging along before ‘Zeds’ appears like a flying V out of leftfield pleading almost in it decree that we all must ‘...get to bed to get your zeds’.
Penultimate track ‘fax’ provides a wonderful fire song chorus, before the ‘song for janet (reprise)’ brings us round full circle eerie and haunting before clattering to its crescendo and conclusion.
Pure Rock is sewn into every track, and I am sure there is still more in there that I have yet to find, such is the depth of this astute recording, to take it all in in one hit seems improbable. As the lead vocal suggests in the final track ‘…..it still eludes me’. Your sure to more than your dollars worth of fun trying to find it though within the janets-the janets.
