Details:
The creative partnership of Jim Ouska and Jane Aleckson has been at the center of many groups since 1990. Stripping away the bands and performing as a duo, this history of playing together in a variety of situations gives a lot of depth to the music they play. Comfortable in jazz, funk, and blues styles, they present a wide range of original music. Their vocal arrangements are intricate, with Jim having a deep, gravelly voice, and Jane singing in a velvety, pure tone--the two voices combined are dynamite. Along with the arrangements, music, and lyrical writing, this multi-tasking duo is a joy to experience.
Jim won a west Bank School of Music Jazz Composers Series grant in 1991, and has been featured in Twin Cities Jazz Society and Minnesota Guitar society concerts.
Jane has played bass with the prestigious Women Who Cook! since 1988, as well as playing with Prudence Johnson and Dean McGraw, (recording "The Songs of Greg Brown"). Jim and Jane''s new CD is receiving airplay on KBEM, KFAI, Minnesota and Wisconsin Public radio.
