About Jeremy: "...if Ani DiFranco and David Bowie had a baby, I hope it would be me." Jeremy is a different kind of musician. He taught himself to play his own instruments. He writes his own songs about personal experiences. And he has no intention of becoming famous. "My songs are what they are. You either like them or you don''t. I hope you do, but... I write them for me, and if people want to listen or sing a long, then that excites me. But if it''s not their thing, then that''s okay too." His mother raised him on glam rock, and his own personal taste can be found in the indie folk rockers of Ani DiFranco and Melissa Ferrick. His style is somewhere in the middle. "I hate having to label my music. I have songs that come out very rockin''. I have some that are way mello. On the cd I''m recording right now, we go from a hip-hop flavored guitar rock song, into a backyard hootenanny, then into very folk ballad to an experimental 28 second rant, to an industrial-feeling song, right into a Spanish guitar track. I think I''ve made an album that everyone will like one song but no one but me will like all of them." And it''s this mentality that got Kendall Massey, producer of the album so excited. "Kendall and I see eye-to-eye on the most important thing to me...that whatever the song sounds like in the end is fine as long as we honored her." (Henry personifies his songs.) "Kendall stayed very true to the intent of each of them and heard their individual voices. And some of them came out differently than I originally heard them. But after they were done it was like, ''Yeah that''s how that song was meant to sound. That''s what she wanted!''" Massey has also produced works for local diva Lacy Spano and country star Aaron Watson. Jeremy''s debut cd "bitterly ever after you" will be released independently in 2006.

"A 2006 release, finally: My discovery on https://www.tradebit.com this month is a singer-songwriter-performer-jack of many styles named Jeremy Henry. His album Bitterly Ever After You has a Valentine''s Day release date (naturally!) [And I''ll be interviewing him that day at 1 pm on WRSU 88.7 FM, streaming live at https://www.tradebit.com Bitterly''s lead off track, "Selfish Song", does what it''s supposed to do: It grabs your attention and doesn''t let go until it''s over. Lines like "You knew who I was when we met and I have no regrets for being this way / and you think that I won''t compromise but I''m tired of all the lies that I''m living each day" are sung at the pace of words spilling out from who-knows-where inside but you know it''s right and shut up now I''m talking, but set to a melody I envision thousands of fans at his concerts singing along with. "Selfish Song" is a no-holds-barred affirmation strewn with short shots of wit. (I truly love "I''m loaded / with ammo / So you''d better put on your camo".) And that''s just for starters, ''cause if anything "You From Here" (also at MySpace) is even better-composed. I love his lyric writing. It''s very honest without being sanctimonious or confessional or hyper-romantic – all easy missteps others take.

Every song I''ve heard demonstrates that Henry has a talent for how to stress or pause the singing of a lyric to the best effect, whether to surprise or emphasize. With four songs at https://www.tradebit.com and more at https://www.tradebit.com one can get a solid taste of Henry''s range and it''s wide. Henry describes the sequence of songs on Bitterly as: "We go from a hip-hop flavored guitar rock song, into a backyard hootenanny, then to a very folk ballad" followed by an experimental rant, and an industrial track. I''ve heard most of them, and can confirm it works. Bitterly Ever After You is his debut, so get in on the ground floor of Jeremy Henry''s career. Soon you''ll be able to brag you knew him when."
