11 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Classic Rock, ROCK: Hard Rock

Details:
This is the first full length CD release by long time guitarist/songwriter Jeff Melin. The 11 songs on Inanimate Object Tea Party combine aspects of classic rock, blues, and classically influenced melodies, swirled around and fused together into a rather fun and interesting mixed bag of tricks.

Jeff is backed on this release by a stellar supporting cast including session and Soundbone drummer Bob Davidson and former Ike and Tina Turner sideman and musical super hero Jack Hill on organ, piano, and cello.

Jeff''s wife Ann contributes piano and backing vocal talents, and along with Cassandra Ross the duo are affectionately known as The Funky Divas. Ann also came up with the cool idea for the CD title and art concept.

Ilja Grajek adds some keyboard tracks from Germany, showing how much smaller the world can be with aid of the internet and digital recording. The string quartet Cuerdas (Jack Hill again, Rhy Thorton, Marisol Padilla, and Louise Gulig) round out the supporting cast, with Rhy adding some nice additional finishing touches on electric violin.

Jeff Melin began playing guitar a long, long time ago in a Chicago suburb far, far away from his current home in North San Diego county. After playing in various bands throughought the various decades, bills and careers and other lame stuff eventually interceded and, for a time, Jeff was relatively inactive with music. The dust finally settled a couple of years ago... armed with a stockpile of dozens of songs, and fueled by a renewed creative surge, a home studio was put together and Interesting Things Started To Happen...

Through a now defunct online collaboration website Jeff "met" Rab Malloy who is co-producer/mixing/mastering guy on the Tea Party CD. Rab lives way over in Scotland, in the same town as the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots...the two have never actually met, but share a common goal of creating fun and interesting music without having to fit it into any particular niche, suck up to any corporate dweebs, or follow fads du jour. The weather is much nicer where Jeff lives.

Just a few of Jeff''s guitar influences include Ritchie Blackmore, Jimi Hendrix, Brian May, Randy Rhodes, Mick Ronson, and the list goes on and on. Other musical tastes range from said artists to Marc Bolan (Long Live T. Rex), David Bowie, all the way over to Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, System of a Down, Bad Religion, Pink Floyd, and of course, the Beatles. Throw in a love for Mozart, Spinal Tap, Bob Dylan, and Tom Waits and anything can (and given time, will) happen.

The Tea Party CD has proven to be enjoyable to open-minded music fans both young and old and this figures to be the first of many releases, with another already well underway.

So grab your copy, sit back, crank it up, and enjoy something new and different, yet somehow old and familiar at the same timeā€¦

The songs:

"Open Road"- A driving, energetic blues-rock instrumental with plenty of guitar riffs and screaming organ to get you to your destination with a smile on your face.

"Waiting for Heroes" - A steady rocker featuring many guitar layers augmented by soaring organ lines. Post 9/11 thoughts of maybe needing a new perspective on where to look for help.

"Turn on the Day" - An upbeat and rather catchy rock and roll tune...living in uncertain times doesn''t mean that we have to let it get the better of us.

"Invisible" - A slower, thoughtful piece. In times of need, better to reach out than to fade away.

"What Can Be Done" - Some flat out rock riffs with a surprising change of pace in the middle section. Vaguely about being happy where we are and with what we have, but at the same time also having hope for the future.

"My Blue Reflection" - Steady, laid back blues feel with some unusual changes. Not a bad idea to have a look inside every once in a while.

"Colours" - A romping, born to boogie rock tune. Never too late to have fun and enjoy what you do.

"Words of Wisdom" - A chiming and melodic instrumental piece featuring bass guitar, interjected with layers of emotionally charged guitar harmonies . Originally written as a lullaby for Jeff''s daughter, the idea was slightly expanded upon for this version.

"The River" - A bouncy pop rock track with some catchy melody lines. Based on a real place that makes the weight of the world fall right off your shoulders.

"A Circle of Bridges" - Moody 12 string guitar introduction leads into some crushing electric guitar. We all cross some bridges, but sometimes it appears that they all lead to the same place.

"City of the New Dawn" - The closing piece features numerous instrumental voices talking to each other about possibilities. Imagine a new civilization based on a foundation of love and hope and understanding...this is where they live.
