Inishowen, a lively and versatile traditional folk quartet based the Susquehanna River Valley of Pennsylvania, specializes in traditional folk tunes and songs.
Inishowen''s repertoire is drawn primarily from the rich musical heritage of the Celtic nations, Canada and the United States, and spans the centuries from the Medieval period through the early 20th Century, including Irish, Scottish & English traditional, French Canadian, Old Time & Bluegrass, Medieval/Renaissance, Civil War, Colonial, and music from the maritime tradition.
"The Banks of Newfoundland: Songs and Tunes of the British Isles and North America" is a collection of some wonderful traditional songs and tunes originating from England, Scotland, Ireland, Canada and the USA. "The Banks of Newfoundland" has been reviewed by "Sing Out Magazine" - the edition will be available January, 2006.

BIOGRAPHIES....
HENRY COHEN, founder and bandleader of Inishowen, was born in New York City. Henry has been a string player for the past 25 years. He began his musical studies on the trumpet at the age of eight, and began teaching himself guitar at age fourteen. Attending Nassau Community College on Long Island in the early 70''s exposed him to folk festivals and concerts, which gave him the inspiration to become a multi-instrumentalist. Henry currently plays fiddle, viola, mandolin, guitar, tenor banjo, hammered dulcimer, bowed psaltery and lute.
Henry Cohen and Lynn Colgan discovered each other at a festival where they were both performing in the Fall of 2000. They subsequently married, and eventually resigned from their former bands to form a musical duo, performing under the name "Inishowen." Eventually Ron Peters (a good friend and former music colleague of Henry''s) and fellow musician and friend Eileen Bozarth joined, and in 2004 Inishowen became a quartet.
LYNN COLGAN COHEN was born in Hanover, Pennsylvania to a family with a long and varied musical tradition. Anything from Bach to Barbershop Quartet could be heard at the Colgan house on any given day. Lynn began her formal musical education with piano studies at the age of five, which continued through her high-school years when she studied under the direction of the late Herb Springer. During her teen years Lynn taught herself to play the guitar, and eventually picked up the tin whistle, folk harp, bowed psaltery and most recently, the Irish bouzouki.
RON PETERS, originally from the Philadelphia area, has over 40 years of musical experience. bringing to Inishowen great talent as a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. Ron plays guitar, mandolin, English and Anglo concertinas, penny and low whistles, recorders (Baroque, not tape), mountain dulcimer, and harmonica. He also sings tenor and baritone harmonies and leads. Ron toured with rock bands in the 60s and with various ethnic, folk and wedding bands throughout the 70s to the 90s. Henry dubbed him "Captain" because of his affinity with all things maritime.
EILEEN BOZARTH''s interest in music began as soon as she was able to clamber up onto a piano bench. She abandoned piano lessons and began teaching herself to play her brohers'' guitar by the time she was 12. One of her favorite pastimes was to rummage through her parents'' records. Although she grew up in Lyndhurst, NJ, Eileen''s parents both came from Louisiana, and her mother is Cajun. Consequently, she got a healthy dose of ''Southern Exposure'' from that record collection. Eileen counts among her many blessings that she had the chance to see the late Stan Rogers perform. From that time on, her love of folk music, sea shanties, and sailing was a foregone conclusion.

PATRICK COLGAN, brother of Lynn - and brother-in-law of Henry - has been playing instruments virtually from the time he learned to walk. Beginning with childhood piano studies, Pat has since become accomplished on guitar, bass (electric & fiddle), cello, sax and more. Pat is co-founded of the "Colgan-Hirsh Band" (https://www.tradebit.com). Pat is also owner of Sound Works Audio Productions in Hanover, PA (http:https://www.tradebit.com where this album was produced. He engineered and mastered the recording of "The Banks of Newfoundland."
LOUIS LYNCH is a well-known harpist, pianist and music teacher from the Harrisburg, PA area. Besides being a highly-accomplished musician himself, he is teacher and mentor to many harp and piano students in south central Pennsylvania. Louis performed harp tracks on the CD "Around Malin Head," and we were delighted when he agreed to contribute his massive talent to "The Banks of Newfoundland."
