With a trombone sound and style all his own, James Moseley is releasing his entertaining CD, James Moseley with Roger Williams & the London Symphony Orchestra. Jim’s been playing jazz trombone since age eight and has performed with Henry Mancini, Frank Sinatra and jazz sax master Grover Washington, Jr.
In addition to Roger Williams and the members of the LSO, jazz greats and Grammy-nominated saxophonists Gerald Albright and Eric Marienthal join the illustrious talent lineup as guest performers on the recording.
Jim’s sharp technical skill is balanced and accented by his wonderfully gifted tone as well expected with the tutoring of Carl Fontana and Bill Watrous.
“People can expect a nice mix between adult contemporary along with the best symphony in the world,” says Moseley.
The album of mostly standards opens with James and Roger sharing tender solos on the lush and beautiful, “Somewhere in Time,” followed by Jim stretching out on his original composition, the jaunty-jazzy, "Find My Way to You.” Next up is Moseley’s sensitive read of the classic love theme from Disney’s, “Beauty and the Beast.” Roger Williams picks up the pace with his fun rendition of, “Alone Again, Naturally.” Roger’s familiar piano styling continues with the gorgeous “The Rose.” In full Dixieland-mode, James and the orchestra march along, “Down By The Riverside.” The James Moseley – Roger Williams teaming on “Just a Closer Walk With Thee” is unlike any interpretation of this traditional hymn, perhaps better suited for a march down Bourbon Street than a stroll to church. Next is a captivating introduction by James’s to the bossa nova beat awaiting the Bart Howard standard, “Fly Me To The Moon.” A Broadway meets Hollywood medley of hits closes the album with James, Roger and the LSO taking turns with Lerner and Lane’s “On A Clear Day,” Yip Harburg and Harold Arlen’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from the Wizard of Oz and the Song of the South’s, “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah.”
The album was arranged and conducted by the popular Johnny Carl and was one of the final works of the late maestro and former musical director for the Crystal Cathedral Symphony Orchestra where James also played a major role in the creation of the beloved band.
