This song came to me in a dream- I had been listening to Muddy Waters the day before and was hearing the slide guitar over and over in my mind. Around the same time I had been listening to and watching a lot of Bjork''s videos while on the road. I woke up the next day with this bluesy, uplifting melody and lyric rattling around in my head but knew it needed to be married to a hip hop kind of groove. "Bright Side" to me represents what we can do if we all take a minute to step back and really, really think about what we''re going to say or do- I had fallen asleep in the car coming back from New York City and was listening to the rumbling of the bridges next to the Jersey City refineries as the van made our way stuttering over each one- that formed the basis of the groove and time. The words came in full the next day when I had an argument with a close friend and realized I needed to open my mind to the possibility of the power that can be gained by letting go.
