The true nature of an artist is to take a mental idea and put it on a canvas. Charlie Picasso is a lyrical artist who paints vivid pictures of reality though hip hop, (i.e. PICASSO). Although this name may be new to you, he is not new to the game. Charlie Picasso began his MC career as part the group “The Woodrow Rebels which consisted of Big Herk, J-Nutty, and Thrust in the early ‘90’s. The group was formed to bring attention to one of the most infamous neighborhoods in Detroit…WOODROW. Wilson. Charlie Picasso, who then went by the name Charlie RATT (Real And True Thug), was later featured on Rock Bottom Entertainment’s first two albums “From the Bottom Up” and “Alligator City” and on Live Action Entertainment’s compilations Addicted to the game which featured the song “Stay dedicated Feat. Thrust and Big Mike of the Geto Boys in the late 90’s.
Just at the height of Charlie’s local career, he fell victim to the streets, and was sentenced to six years in the Michigan Department of Corrections. While many other individuals would have given up on their dreams, Charlie Ratt honed his skills and vowed to become The Greatest Artist Ever, thus giving birth to Charlie Picasso. While incarcerated he wrote and produced hundreds of top quality songs, from hip-hop, hard core rap, to r& b, he did it all.
After his release, he hit the ground running. Spending numerous hours, days, and months in the studio working on what would become his debut album “Let Me Hold Sumthin”. While other Detroit artist were producing mix tapes, Charlie decided to take his craft to another level. Let Me Hold Sumthin is a certified hip hop classic, not just on local standards but world wide.
