Details:
As implied in the title, this new release from Thomas Earl speaks to his personal journey and the pursuit of his musical passion. The new EP includes seven original compositions and was recorded “old school” with only vocals and vintage acoustic Guild Six and 12 String guitars.

Thomas became involved in music in the 1960’s in Ann Arbor Michigan. He performed in coffeehouses with such artists as Jim Kweskin, John Hammond Jr. and Joni Mitchell. He worked for several years in the music industry performing and producing music events, then left to take a job in the corporate world. He did release a CD, Golddust Magic in 2007, while continuing his day-job business ventures. He received some recognition for the project including being selected as a Featured New Songwriter at the New Jersey Folk Festival and having one of the songs a finalist in the Independent Acoustic Music Awards (IAMA) competition.

In the spring of this year Thomas decided it was time to again pursue his passion on a full time basis. This late-career decision was inspired by his experiences with Mr. Gordon Parks. Thomas first discovered Parks when he did a graduate school project on his photography Years later he had opportunities to spend time with Mr. Parks, including a private personal tour of one of his exhibitions. Even though Parks already had a successful photography and film career (Life Magazine and directing “Shaft”), later in life he went on to pursue writing, painting and classical music composition. For Parks, it was never too late to pursue your passions. These experiences inspired Thomas’ new project, (Including the title track of the CD) and the EP is dedicated to Gordon Parks. Thomas still has a signed portrait of Mr. Parks sitting above his recording studio control board.

Now in his early 60s, Thomas has been playing and writing music for over 40 years. His style is a blend of his early influences, ranging from Mississippi John Hurt and Gordon Lightfoot to James Taylor and acoustic Neil Young. He plays with a unique finger picking style (partly based on a few years playing banjo) and still uses a thumb pick and metal finger picks. He also demonstrates some Leo Kottke influences with his acoustic instrumentals on the EP, “Low Tide” and “In the Canyon” (Featuring his 1966 Guild F-412 – 12 string guitar).
