LINER NOTES:

One of my joys of singing songs from the Great American Songbook has been the privilege of working with some of the top musicians in the country. This recording project has several of the finest players working today. Combine this superb group of artists with several of my favorite romantic songs, and you have what I feel is my best work to date.

Many of my most treasured experiences working live at either clubs or festivals have been in both the Los Angeles and the Salt Lake City areas. Chuck Niles at KKJZ in Los Angeles and Steve Williams at KUER in Salt Lake City have been kind enough to play my CDs on the radio. Fortunately, many of the musicians I have worked with on my live performances are on this project including featured pianist/arranger Craig Larson and his trio, two-time Grammy winner (and Nancy Wilson''s music director for 20 years), Llew Matthews, Sarah Vaughn''s music director for 10 years, George Gaffney, and Joe Massimino, pianist for Tony Bennett and Julius LaRosa. Two other special people also appear on this project. Guitarist John Pisano, who worked with Diana Krall on two of her Grammy-winning CDs, and Tom Gravin, who wrote arrangements for Dock Severinson''s Tonight Show Band for 19 years, and who arranged and conducted the Salt Lake City Jazz Orchestra on "Come Rain or Come Shine."

A special thanks goes to my vocal coach, Marge Rivington, who has worked with such greats as Linda Ronstadt, Bette Midler, and Maureen McGovern for more than 20 years. She has worked on these vocals with me and has made me a better singer.

I hope you enjoy listening to these beautiful songs as much as I have enjoyed recording them for you. Thanks for caring!

--Jack Wood

BIOGRAPHY

Jack Wood, a familiar face on the Southern California jazz scene (as both concert producer and singer), has performed and recorded with many of the finest and best-known jazz musicians in the Los Angeles area.

Since his early days with the Ronnie Brown trio, which included musicians John Clayton on bass on Jeff Hamilton on drums, Jack has devoted himself to performing and recording the great standards. His most important influences have been Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Mel Tormé and Jack Jones. He is equally at home singing an up-tempo jazz tune, a romantic ballad or a sensual bossa nova.

Top musicians who have regularly worked with stars such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Nancy Wilson, Natalie Cole and Diana Krall also work with Jack. The players often comment on his impeccable intonation and smooth, clean sound. The late Chuck Niles, a renowned DJ who has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, wrote on Jack’s CD, Baby, Baby All The Time, “Jack has a delightful, appealing style in honoring the the American songbook.” Bobby Troup, who used to come to Jack’s club dates, wrote regarding two of his songs that Jack had recorded, “Jack, thank you for singing my songs so well.” Alan Bergman, Oscar and Grammy award-winning lyricist of Alan and Marilyn Bergman fame wrote to Jack regarding his recording of their song, “Moonlight,” which was nominated for an Oscar for best song from the movie Sabrina. Alan wrote, “It’s quite a good job,” and then volunteered to send a copy of the recording to John Williams, who wrote the music for the song.

Performances for Jack have included small clubs, college theaters, large amphitheaters and jazz festivals. He has opened for Sergio Mendez and Maureen McGovern, and has appeared in jazz festivals alongside of Nancy Wilson, Jack Jones and Eddy Daniels. Jack appeared during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City at the famous Snowbird Resort and has also entertained in Park City, Utah.

Jack’s clean-cut handsome image, his warm personal rapport with an audience and his superb engaging voice makes him a favorite among fans. He is an artist with class and style.
