Details:
Janna Goodwille’s songs, with their honest lyrics, blend of alternative acoustic jazz-influenced pop, and the soulful arrangements with which she delivers them, have captivated audiences in her home country of England, UK; in parts of NE Spain; and as far a field as Arizona, Nevada’s Burning Man Festival, and California’s west coast music scene where she was warmly welcomed.

Janna’s material, which she writes, brings us the voice of a view of the world from a humanitarian perspective. She says, “So few people have the courage to take responsibility for creating their own reality, and I think it’s a key. I want my lyrics to appeal to the Universal in us all."

The UK launch of Janna’s stunning debut 5-track EP, Wishes to Wings (produced by Janna Goodwille & Janine Blakeburn) was organized by Budding Awareness Events and took place on Saturday 17th May 2008 in South-East London and £1 from every ticket sold donated to community and sustainability projects.

Janna began playing piano and dreaming of being a singer/songwriter/performer at the age of five. In her teens she took up the flute and started listening to soul, jazz, pop and classical music. Until her early 20s, Janna sang and toured with several choirs, landed roles in musical theatre productions, and sang with jazz orchestras in Manchester and London. She says, “At this point I began to understand from a performers’ perspective what so many thousands before me have long realized: music really affects people! Music does something that we can’t see or hear, something extraordinary, magical, and exciting…” This is when Janna realized she wanted to make her dreams a reality. So... she studied pop music, began teaching singing and music to individuals and classes and co-founded, co-managed and sang in a 10-piece funk, soul & disco band. But still she wanted more…

In 2003, Janna met and started working with producer/manager Janine Blakeburn. “It was Janine''s trust and confidence in me that began to make my solo career concrete reality", says Janna. Since then, Janna has been honing both her performance skills - playing and singing her own material solo and with other varied 4-11 piece bands - and her writing skills, until finally selecting her own band to play with in 2008.

2008 & 2009 saw “Janna Goodwille & Friends” - Premgeet Andre (backing vocals & cello), James Hewins (double bass), Alex Foster (lead and rhythm guitar) & Jon Bongly (percussion), supported by Justin Jackson & Dr D. (percussion), Lydia Polzer (flute), Stewart George (sax), Geoff Sheridan (trumpet) Liz Jones (Violin) and Jack WhistlecrAFT (beat box) - playing nearly 100 gigs at Festivals across the UK (including a phenomenal 11 gigs in 4 days at the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe), at gigs around London town and delighting an increasing local fan base at Janna Goodwille & Friends'' monthly residency at World of Music Revue Nights in Greenwich. Audiences have been enraptured by both the message and the music. One inspired music-lover at Secret Garden Party said Janna Goodwille & Friends was “quite simply the best band I’ve seen in a very long time”.

“The vast majority of our gigs have captivated audiences who really listened throughout the whole set. It seems people want to hear music that has something to say and I’m thrilled”, Janna says. “The state of the world at the moment is something almost everyone is waking up to. So many people, especially in the western world, live with complete disregard towards their dependence on our beautiful, supportive, life-giving planet. I trust that my music will not only provoke thought but will also inspire personal AND collective growth, positivity and ACTION."

Laura Greenhalgh (Choreographer & Dancer, The Pattern Club Ltd) says, “Her sound is unique, with a brightness and warmth that appeals, songs/melodies that I liked instantly, and lyrics which are celebratory and joyous”.

Colin J Farley (Producer; Bassist for International Number One band Cutting Crew) affirms "There is no question as to Janna''s songwriting ability. In terms of where her solo career is going, she is up there with the potential overnight success of the likes of Norah Jones."
