Morning Song, James McKie’s third solo album, is a showcase of his talents as a songwriter/musician/singer: he is composer and feature artist on this CD of entirely new music. This album consists of guitar based vocal songs, with a heavy emphasis on fingerpicking and songs within the singer-songwriter realm in odd timing (influenced by Persian and Greek meters).
Co-producing and performing on the album with James is Tim Bovaconti, whose accomplishments include work with Ron Sexsmith and the Guess Who. The selections feature a range of up and coming and seasoned musicians including Terry Wilkins, Kyle Sullivan, Derek Downham, Fergus Hambleton, Roman Tome, Derrick Lewis, Alex Tait, Chris Bezant, and Simon Diamond, all gifted and adding their special talents.
In the past, James has opened shows for J.P. Cormier, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Glen Campbell. Within the past year, as a member of Jerry Leger and the Situation, James has shared the stage with Ron Sexsmith, Dave Bidini, Julie Doiron, and Justin Townes Earle. Last summer at the Hillside Festival, James had the honour of playing in a workshop with Buffy Sainte-Marie.
