Details:
Breaking Out is an album that was a long time coming. The release is as the title suggests, a breaking out of sorts for artist and songwriter Gus Chouli. The tracks range from songs written during different intervals of Gus Chouli''s career as a song writer. Some of the tracks were amongst the first songs he put together and others were more recent compositions. Songs like Whiskey Woman and LSD were freed from the vault because they still carried the vibe and substance that Gus wanted this record to have.

The album was recorded and produced independently but mastered at Voodoo Sound studios in Toronto. The songs are arranged by mood and flow logically. The sound of the disk is polished without being too overdone. The point was to record the music and make it sound good and to give it the punch it needed to carry it forward. Gus Chouli co-mixied and co-produced the disk with partner Dan Breen. They did not over-produce the disk wanting to retain some of the more natural sounding tones without being overdressed.

The record was a lot of fun to do but there was definitely a lot of hard work that went into recording and producing Breaking Out. Consider that Gus played all the Guitars, Bass Guitar, Keyboards, all Lead Vocals and even some of his own backups. Dan played some guitar and did some back-ups but maintained more of a mix engineer and producer role throughout.

The disk flows nicely and will have you humming some of the hooks. Gus tried to maintain a balance of good musicianship and yet tried not to get too carried away. The number one thing is the audience and the band''s hard work payed off, enjoy it.
