it was in Asia Minor, especially in the western part of Anatolia, that the Turkish and Greek communities lived side-by-side under the Ottoman Empire. Their mutual recognition of each other''s cutlures allowed them to create a shared musical tradition. It is this complex and rich musical universe, with an occasional hint of Gypsy influence, which Maliétès explores through popular Greek and Turkish music.
