From Scott Mapes- The guitar riffs for this piece were unfortunatly composed on Dec 9, 2004. Which, is the day I heard "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott had been murdered the previous evening. (Dec 9 also happens to be my sister''s birthday). So, that evening, I only felt like playing fast, hard, and heavy, and the riffs that make up this song are the result.
I had the title "Brutal Act of Mercy" for a while, which, I thought was a cool title. But I had no subject matter. Someone suggested writing about the crucifixion. So, after a few trials and errors, I finally came up with lyrics I was happy with.
After all the songs I''ve recorded, this is the guitar tone and mix I''m happiest with. It is definietey the clearest guitar tone I have ever gotten on a heavy song, and while the tone wouldn''t be suitable for all songs, for this one, it is-appropriately-brutal.
And, it was recorded with a 15-watt Vox Pathfinder and a Metal Master distortion pedal...as an experiment no less! (To see if I could get a "big ,metal sound" without dragging in "big, metal amps".
