The Way You Love Me…what does it mean?
Although the music itself is a clear departure from the traditional gospel sound, with its rhythmic dance, techno, jazz and even salsa vibes on some tracks, I believe more important than the beat- is the message. You see, my own story is that because of experiences in my past I wasn’t given the best examples of what it means to love or to be loved. As a result, I searched for it in the wrong places, in the wrong ways and looked to be accepted by people who would never accept me, much less love me. As a result, I made bad decisions. I hurt the people who did love me and was brutally scarred by those who didn’t and some who did. I never thought I would get to a place in my life where I could trust someone enough to allow them to love me or trust myself enough to love, but God has shown me the way, by demonstrating such love through his one and only Son, Jesus Christ! The way that he loves me surpasses any type of love I could have ever found. He has mended my brokenness. He has made me whole. He dries my tears. He keeps me from falling. He is my hedge of protection. When others seek to destroy me, he fights my battles. He has comforted me. When I am weary, he gives me strength. No, my life has not been easy, but I have come to realize that all along I was loved. Yes, even as I cowered in a corner as a child crying and believing that love would never be for me, I was mistaken, it is for me. As my life continued and true love continued to evade my grasp through the devastation of infidelity and later divorce, I was mistaken, it is for me. When I lost my job, I felt deserted, but God assured me that he would provide for me and that he was still there- loving me. When my hope was nearly gone over a medical condition that challenged my health for nearly three years, I began to believe that no one cared about me, but I was mistaken, God had a miracle waiting for me and showed me that I was still the apple of his eye, even when I thought that I was forgotten.
While I’m better, I’m still not perfect and God helps me to grow stronger in him every day through his love. I know that I am not the only one who has experienced despair or felt as though love has not been kind, but I’m here to tell you that God’s love is kind. It is patient and true. It is everlasting and available to you. He won’t leave you. He won’t abuse your trust or judge your past. He will carry your burdens and lift up your bowed head, because he truly cares and is concerned about you.
Every song on the album “The Way You Love Me” is a reflection of how God loves his people and what it is like to be free to love on him. All songs are personal testimonies from me to you about what I have learned in my faith walk and an invitation to join me in exaltation to him for his Agape love.
I pray that it will draw you closer to him if you know him and that you will answer the call to salvation if you don’t already have a relationship with him.
