Details:
Necrology is MY OWN GRAVE''s masterpiece, or as its producer Dan Swanö put it:
"When I hear albums like this, it makes me proud to be a part of the Swedeath phenomenon.
Great songs with well-crafted hooks and a musicianship to die for.
The perfect blend between old-school and modern Death F***ng Metal!!"

Biography:
MY OWN GRAVE was founded in April 2001 in Timrå by Anders Härén, Max Bergman and John Henriksson.
They released four self-produced demos before signing with Karmageddon Media (DISMEMBER) in 2004.
The debut album "Unleash" was recorded in Studio Necromorbus (WATAIN, MÖRK GRYNING) and engineered by Widda (DEMONICAL, DIABOLICAL). Unleash featured a death/thrash sound with black metal influences and was released in 2006.

The same year Karmageddon Media went out of business and MY OWN GRAVE recorded the mini-album "Unholy" and signed a deal with Pulverised Records (AMON AMARTH, KRISIUN, DISSECTION) and went on a European tour supporting black metal legends SETHERIAL. Unholy which was released in April 2007, featured a different style as MY OWN GRAVE had evolved towards pure death metal. It is also darker than its precursor, both musically and lyrically as the whole album mocks the hypocrisy of organized religion. MY OWN GRAVE did some touring in the spring of 2007, both supporting GOD AMONG INSECTS and VITAL REMAINS, before starting to writing for "Necrology".

Necrology was released by Pulverised Records in July 2009 and was critically appraised. Counting close to 60 reviews spanning 15 countries, it still holds an average grade of 8 out of 10!

Necrology (Album 2009)
Review by : Rottenbucher for https://www.tradebit.com
Grade: 4.5 / 5

With a name like My Own Grave, it''s easy to dismiss the band as being another tired and uncreative Deathcore band. This is not the case. My Own Grave is the antithesis of Deathcore and even with their melodic slant; the band has more in common with Vomitory than some trendy ''core crap. In fact, Melodic Death Metal may have never been this brutal before.

While "Awaiting Death" is an intro, the assault starts with the face-peeling title track. Walls of vicious riffs and sickening speed collide with Dissection-like melodies and one of the best growls since Jor was singing for Grave. Vocalist Mikael Aronsson has one of the most guttural and clear vocal deliveries ever heard. "Hail the Blind" keeps up the marvelous might while "None Shall See" even channels a bit of Black Metal before truly settling into to a gargantuan grooves. An air-raid siren starts off the bellicose "Disciples of War" and the band slows down a bit, almost channeling Bolt Thrower, before exploding in to a melodic yet blasting fit. The song shows a lot of maturity and the great ability to work with a variety of tempos without skimping on the heaviness. "Cerecloth" features some truly impressive riff hysterics from Anders Härén and Stefan Kihlgren while "Bloodline Broken" just goes for the jugular with its relentless riffs and speed. The twin leads on "Exhumed to Be Buried" almost seems too melodic for the assaultive slant of the song. Necks will snap and skulls will be pulped by the simply awesome "Age of Torment." With heaps of groove, terrifying aggression and some great leads the song shows off just how awesome My Own Grave is. Necrology closes with "Incineration" that launches into another grinding attack that is just as lethal as when the album''s opening track.

While My Own Grave isn''t doing anything new, they are doing everything right. This is 35 minutes of top shelf, crushing chaos and flawless in its delivery and production. A lot of this material has been heard before by several other bands but the stars align here. Plain and simple; Necrology slays. There isn''t a weak moment on the disc. It''s a short but oh-so sweet lethal dose of some of the best and most brutal Melodic Death Metal ever recorded. Fans of bands like Vomitory and Unleashed need to pay attention. Highly recommended.

Review by Graham Ellis for
Terrorizer Magazine (Issue #188, 2009)
Grade: 8 / 10

Fulfilling every bit of the promise they displayed on their superb "Unholy" EP back in 2007, My Own Grave could easily leapfrog the majority of their Swedish death peers with this textbook show of strength.

Borrowing primarily from the illustrious legacy of their Stockholm and Gothenburg peers, they eschew any and all notions of experimentation in favour of a heads-down, take-no-prisoners approach that is, at its most incisive, strongly redolent of Unleashed in their malevolent prime.

There''s more than a little whiff of Floridian ferocity and the occasional burst of Slayer-ised riffing here too, and it''s that ability to switch from Dismember clatter to Gorguts bludgeon in the blink of a beer–pickled eye that makes the likes of "Disciples Of War" and "Exhumed To Be Buried" such a violent but uncomplicated joy.
Not many bands get the balance between old school filth and new school vitality right, but My Own Grave are skillfully inching away from the chasing pack.

Necrology (Album 2009)
Review by David Noaksson for Dagbladet (July 20th, 2009)
Original review (in Swedish)
Translated by: My Own Grave
Grade: 4 / 5

Necrology is a long-finger salute to everything and everyone. It''s a manifest written in blood. When Sundsvall''s My Own Grave release their new album, it is with riffs heated in the fires of hell, melodies from beyond the grave, and songs that reek of death''s breath. Yes; it''s death metal, not a confirmation camp.

Even though the debut album Unleash was impressive, Necrology is several steps better. This time you''re not just run over, you''re obliterated. The title track is a perfect example of this, where My Own Grave cast bloodthirsty beast-riffs unto the listener, all while catchy melodies bring peace and order in the turmoil. If the record had maintained that quality from beginning to end, the 5 out of 5 had been granted. Instead it''s "just a fantastic" record: 35 minutes of unspoiled satisfaction.
