Details:
''Indigo Flats'' is the result of many years'' procrastination. Though I have written many songs over time, both solo and as part of a writing partnership, I never, for some reason, took my role as an artist seriously. Here in Scotland, where the sombre, solemn ghost of Presbyterianism still stalks the cobbled streets, this kind of thing is a bit frowned upon! Putting your head above the parapet is viewed with suspicion, even now. But I like to think we''re gradually outgrowing this shadow.

No matter. This album draws on a huge pantheon of influences, from the psychedelic guitar groups of the late sixties, through the melodic sensibilities and evocative chord constructions of Lennon/McCartney, via 21st century rock played through an aural prism of classic 70s rock sensibility. Pink Floyd pop up in the track ''All That You Know'', and the final track ''Take These Wings'' is Blackbird meets Muse. ''Watching the Voyeurs'' is an attack on our decade''s apparent obsession with the cult of celebrity, reality TV and botox, a veritable rant at our society''s darkly dysfunctional ways. ''Open Windows'' is a slice of Crosby, Stills and Nash, ''The Brightness of her Light'' a slab of melodic balladry.

In truth, its all here, and impossible to categorize beyond my sketchy yet (I hope) intriguing outline above. If you like melody and strong, honest, mature songwriting, I think you will love my album ''Indigo Flats''. I think there is something for everyone here, and, with fourteen tracks and running at 58 minutes, this is an album which (corny and unfashionable though this may be) offers value for money.

WATCHING THE VOYEURS

I woke up in the morning I was Jesus
Sweating in the darkness, was I God?
Imagining salvation could be with us
Delivered by the Cosmic Lightning Rod

I am dreaming I could be you or another
Will you turn into one who may be me?
Eggman, Beggarman, politician thief
Serve yourself now, there is nobody free

Big Brother be kind to mother, alleged celebrity.

Couch potato reading Plato, not in this life
Faux-authentic degeneration game
Decomposing cuddly toys
more business for the boys
In the Charnel House of FAME.

Satan peers through the prism.

Supermodel Hansel Gretel face it Wildenbeest
Accepting nature’s gifts, merely to destroy
Tabloid Redtop Polyglottal mash
Cain and Abel (through a glass darkly)
Throw toys from the pram

The darkness is our friend.

Cashback Abstract Arabstrap
Give the starving hordes a Bone
Written on their spirits a sad song
At the parish gates, alone.

Species on the dance floor
What do you need money for?
Watching the voyeur, watching the voyeur watching
The voyeur, watching the voyeurs watching.

Species on the dance floor
What do we need community for?
Watching the voyeurs watching..

Indigo Flats is dedicated to the memory of two former collaborators sadly missed:
Chris Donald and Alan McIntyre- take a bow, lads.
