Details:
These original compositions by Lori Thompson are performed with acoustic bluegrass instruments, yet the styles reflect a variety of genres including country, folk, and even Cajun. Some songs have local historical significance. For instance, “Where the Black River Flows” recounts the famous 19th century Forestport dam breaks. “Gracie’s Grave” is based on the life of an 18th century woman, Prudence Pomeroy whose gravestone stands on Rte. 12 in upstate NY. Yet another song, “Home to You” explores one version of how the song, “Taps” came to be. These heartfelt melodies keep one foot in the past and lead us forward with hope, love, and faith.
Cincinnati Creek performs locally across Central NY. Band members have performed in the area for many years at venues including Utica Monday Night, The Fox Family Festival, The Adirondack Railroad, The Remsen Barn Festival, and numerous coffee houses and outdoor festivals.
Lori Thompson plays mandolin and rhythm guitar. She also sings lead and harmony vocals. She has been writing songs and performing for some time. Chris Pepe plays the 5-string banjo. His fancy picking and good humor are a great addition to the band. Gary Dygert plays the guitar and dobro. He also sings lead and harmony vocals. As the group’s official “musicologist”, Gary adds many traditional tunes to the group’s repertoire. Gary has performed in many other local bands over the years such as Midnight Flyer and Keeping it Country. Cathy Martin sings harmony and plays the upright bass. Cathy also performs with the Remsen Community Choir and the Steuben Players. Several guest performers appear on the CD as well. Ed Entwistle and Nick Piccinni play fiddle. Lori’s brother, Ron Sutton, adds the dobro and pedal steel. Carl Stump of Stump Hollow performs on several songs. In addition, the Remsen Community Choir sings back up to one tune.
