The unique acoustics and character of the pipe organ in St Albans had a distinct influence on the selection of the programme and I hope you will be pleased with the choice. Recordings of the repertoire presented here are rarely found in this form and I trust you will enjoy it as much as the many listeners to our live performances over the years.
Handel’s Largo was included on my first CD, Arioso, but the unique character of this version with the flugelhorn convinced me to add it to the programme. The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba required two trumpets. With the aid of modern multi-track recordings I could first play the one trumpet part, then play the part of the second trumpet and mix everything together afterwards. The Trumpet Voluntary by John Stanley has also been included in a rearranged form.
It has been a privilege for me to work with the artists you hear on this recording.
