Black Olive Jazz plays Standards, Swing, Latin and Blues with a Mediterranean flavor. Vocalist Kay Andreas (Kostopoulos) is also a professional actress and director who teaches in the Drama Department and Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. She sings several languages, and plays percussion and finger cymbals. An elegant singer whose voice is inspired by the golden age of jazz, Kay pays homage to the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Peggy Lee and Anita O’Day.
This recording features Bay Area treasures Larry Vuckovich on piano, Bill Douglass on bass, Eddie Marshall on drums and Noel Jewkes on saxophone. Performing classic songs from enduring masters of the art form, such as Duke Ellington, the Gershwins, Harold Arlen, Cole Porter; and songwriters from Europe and Latin America-- Black Olive Jazz brings these traditions together with her all-star ensemble of San Francisco jazz artists.
