The Hochimen is a North Texas trio headed by the former leader of the mid 90''s band Spot, Reggie Rueffer. With Ed McMahon on guitar and Pete Young on drums, we loosely sketch out Reggie''s lyrics and melody with a quirky minimalist abandon, using interesting chord progressions and a lot of cold Coors beer. Recorded in a bucolic setting south of Denton, Texas, in the summer of ''01, we spent three days basically capturing our live sound. The lyrics have a poetic sensibility and concern Reggie''s losing his Christian religion, the untimely demise of a week-old kitten, the saga of a friend getting his ass kicked in a bar, the perils of television, and death in general. It''s good and smart, not just three chords and a pretty face.
