The year 2004 is already a whirlwind for this Texas-based singer/songwriter. Before the official release parties of "A Better Life" have all been planned, her title cut has been chosen for the HUAC sampler to be distributed at the International Folk Alliance Conference in late February in San Diego. This Hot Unsigned Americana Collective sampler is a sizzler and will receive total conference distribution and airplay in over a hundred radio markets. She will be performing at the conference with the Austin Conspiracy showcase.
Her Christmas song "Another Silent Night" was honored in
Pacifica station''s KPFT in Houston, just before Christmas and was played alongside Catie Curtis'' live version of
"Silent Night." This song, although currently only a single, has attracted much attention in Nashville and may
well be heard next season on a major release.
Harriet is packing them in with her dynamic live performances, so look for her to come your way on her summer
release tour of "A Better Life." This album celebrates love and loss and risk-taking. The hauntingly beautiful Celtic ballad "Ireland" addresses an antique family violin of unknown origin, except for the scant piece of information that it came from County Cook. Edgy country rock tune "The Further I Fall" was written after the Enron collapse and is a rallying cry for workers everywhere.
"Baby You''ve Got My Heart," and "Bring You Back to Life" are soul rocking tunes that you''ll be singing along with from the beginning, and the rousing anthem "Stand With Me" will have you raising your candles, lighters, and anything else aflame! The blues ballad "Belle of the Ball" honors the tragic figure of Blanche Dubois in Tennessee Williams'' "A Streetcar Named Desire."
This sophomore CD refutes the myth of the sophomore slump for musicians. Its poignant, eclectic edge moves forward a
career that you want to watch--to say "I was with her from the beginning," as the buzz on this great entertainer grows!
