Heaven’s Octave
First, giving honor to God, without whom nothing would be, I would just like to say that I Am that I Am made it all possible that I introduce Sly Vann to you on this day.
When I was just a little boy I always felt a strong connection with God, knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. I remember the conversations with my grandmother that first gave me strength enough to dream and to aspire. I remember the conversations with my mother and father that gave me the courage to fight for my place in this world. And I also remember my days at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that taught me to think and to reason for myself.
Today I have a beautiful wife and three gorgeous daughters, a loving family unit, and a brand new life changing CD project. All the glory and honor belongs to God because every day of my life has been introduced to a new struggle to overcome to get me to this very day.
I am Sly Vann and it is my express privilege that your eyes are even reading this. See, I could have been dead and gone a long time ago, but God saw fit for me to realize this moment. I thank you for your support and well wishes. I thank my family for all of their encouraging words along the way. God’s chosen work is a mission few willing seek to do. It comes with great responsibility and many battles to fight, but having a relationship and communing with God gives me the peace and commitment to try. So God bless you for all of your prayers as I endeavor to relay God’s message to the world.
I would like to give a special thanks to all the members of Heaven’s Octave for their courage and support. We have been singing together as Sly Vann & Heaven’s Octave since late August of 2005. My father, Rev. Matt Vann, Jr., sings bass. My mother, Lynnette Vann, sings soprano. My wife, Sherry Vann, sings soprano and alto. My sister, Tomeka Hill, sings alto. My other sister, Shanna VannHall, sings alto. My best friends, the Crumps, Will and Sharon Crump; Will sings baritone and tenor and Sharon sings soprano and alto. Last, but definitely not least, my lead singer and friend, Mr. Laneal Burney, sings everything. I would also like to thank Derrek Croney and Minister Denver A. Wright for their work on this project. It has truly been invaluable.
