Heat: The hottest new female hip hop artist and entrepreneur is calling attention to the Southwest with her debut album, “Tha JawDroppa Show.” As a lyricist, Heat creates in-your-face rhymes that challenge mainstream hip hop music. This New Mexico native was born and raised in Clovis, a small community which has been dubbed “dirty Curry,” due to the high concentration of crime, drugs, and poverty. Her environment became the inspiration behind many of Heat’s moving lyrics. On the flip side, choosing to be based out of a small community has its obstacles. “It takes a limitless hustle. The resources and networking opportunities that are readily available for other upcoming artists are miles away from our camp” says Dominic Gutierrez (Heat’s manager). Unfortunately, New Mexico is generally overlooked by the music world and putting The Land of Enchantment on the map is part of Heat’s stratagem.
How does Heat distinguish herself form the influx of aspiring artists hitting the rap scene? “It’s a Southwest Style,” says Heat. “Down here it’s more about your lyrics.” Although she has been compared to many top artists, her approach is completely unorthodox, creating a vibe that is exclusively Heat. She demonstrates her versatility in her ability to produce music addressing real issues while quickly following up with a club hit.
In an effort to exploit the talent of her camp, Heat established JawDroppa Records, LLC. The current objective of the newly founded company is to assist talented artists in recording and distributing commercially satisfactory masters. JawDroppa Records is a prime example of a grass roots organization with huge potential to become a force in the entertainment industry. Anticipation grows stronger as the members of the company continue to break new ground for talented artists that do not have the resources to create and market professionally.
Since her induction to the hip hop scene, Heat has featured on several compilations and has created over three hundred hits. Following the recent release of the JawDroppa Show, she has performed at several great venues in New Mexico and surrounding areas, including the Houston “DJ Screwfest.” JawDroppa records plans to unleash a huge marketing campaign to increase the already large fan base in the near future.
With a self titled album in the works, and the scheduled releases of several talented group member albums, Heat eats, breathes, and sleeps hip hop. The constant recording and performing have paid enormous dividends. Heat is destined to become a hip hop prodigy, and is currently awaiting her opportunity to show the music community her work. “It’s all about being at the right place, at the right time, says Heat, I will be there.”
