“Modern Day Scrooge” was written after I watched the documentary, “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room.” I was angered by the way the executives lied and manipulated their company’s financial records to inflate stock values when they knew the company was floundering. These executives quietly began selling off their stock in their own company and the eventual fall of Enron led to thousands of investors losing their life savings. The executive’s greed was worse than that of the social injustice written about in Charles Dickens tale, “A Christmas Carol.” At least, Ebenezer Scrooge had a change of heart at the end of story.
