My mother made sure I had a trade. Catering, she thought would be a good choice for me because I love food. So two years in Catering College and two years in a top hotel in the city, then back to Jamaica t work in the hotel industry and re-discovering my roots.

I was cheffing during the day and singing at night. All of Jamaica was singing and dancing.

I won a singing competition in Kingston and made my first record for Hi-Lite records, little wonder sound was thumping out my tune ''Sitting In The Moonlite''. It felt really good. Pretty girls were smiling at me and singing my song.

I was invited to become a singer in a band from Harbour View. The band was The Vagabonds, Jackie Mittoo was on keys. After a few months, I left and Jimmy James joined, they went off to England and the big time.

While I was a chef at the Bell View Hospital in Kingston, I made sure Don Drommond ate well when he was admitted. On his discharge from hospital, he would come to my house in Allmond Town to chill out before going to see the Duke Read. Hail the King of Ska, Don D.
