Details:
Daddy Crimbo was formed in the darkest heart of beautiful Santa Cruz, California by three students at the UC located in said town. The band’s three members, Danny Echevarria (vocals and guitar), Dylan Chapple (vocals and bass), and Igliashon Jones (drums) set out to provide an alternative to Santa Cruz’s stiflingly overpopulated indie-folk scene by playing loud, stupid rock and roll songs. After a few months of practice and performance, the trio realized that while their modest collection of original songs was indeed loud and stupid, some of them were pretty okay, and so Echevarria, Chapple, and Jones set out to record in the summer of 2006. The result was the lovely 8-song EP/mini-album that you will hopefully be purchasing in the very near future.

The birth of Daddy Crimbo is as classic a tale as has ever been told by man or beast. Echevarria and Chapple first met as mere lads of eight-or-so-years-old through a mutual friend, although they would not become aware of this fact until about 11 years later. The two began playing music in the spring of 2005, working up a set of six original songs, which they performed, along with drummer Ryan Huber, under the name Lips Fredericks in Chapple and Huber’s garage. Unfortunately, Lips Fredericks’ fate was to die young, as Huber graduated shortly thereafter and Chapple left for Madagascar to study abroad.

In the fall of 2005, Echevarria began to grow tired of playing the noise-prog-rock to which he had devoted the last two years of his life, and began to take interest in writing songs that required very little thought or effort. He performed these songs, often without rehearsal of any kind, as a solo act, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. Upon Chapple’s return from Madagascar, the two began to flesh out these songs, as well as Chapple’s compositions, so that they could sound more like pieces of music and less like the hollered rants of a sexually frustrated drunk.

The two quickly recruited Echevarria’s recent housemate, the Reverend Igliashon Perplexitus Jones, and hastily threw together a set of seven songs, which they performed at a house show that will forever live in infamy. At said show, Daddy Crimbo’s smash hit, “The Town” was written by an increasingly drunk Echevarria in an impromptu performance inspired by his friend Gordon’s shirt. The band went on to give what was most likely a strong debut performance (though few present remember clearly) that ended in nudity, the damaging of Chapple’s bass amp, and a group of friends’ aimless search for a lost Echevarria, who was in fact asleep in the back seat of somebody’s parked car, not 10 feet away from the house.

In the following months, Daddy Crimbo tightened their act, and recorded their aforementioned debut CD over the summer of 2006. Since recording “Daddy Crimbo!!” the group has added several slightly less stupid, but equally loud, songs to its repertoire, which will hopefully be recorded soon/eventually/at all.

If you made it this far through this bio, good for you! Please listen to our samples (the limit of two minutes allows you to listen to most of them practically in their entirety), and if you like what you hear, please please please buy a CD, which will feature the lovely, psychedelic cover art of our friend Stacie Willoughby.
