“There is no such thing as perfection, only perfect practice!” Alex Lattimore received this bit of wisdom from his high school band teacher, Mr. James Richards, and has certainly used it to his advantage. Born in Chicago’s southside, this talented artist is no stranger to the world of music. At the tender age of 5, Alexander began his piano lessons at the American Conservatory of Music. While engaging in these lessons, he also sang in a youth ensemble at his home church. Not only did he enjoy playing the piano and singing, but the trumpet beckoned him as well. Picking up the trumpet was indeed magical because it led him to perform with such phenomenal groups as the Chicago Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, All-City Band and Orchestra, Sherwood Conservatory Brass Ensemble, Roosevelt University Jazz Band, and the University of Chicago Chamber Orchestra. He was even a student in the prestigious Merit Music Program of Chicago, a program for gifted young people designed to enhance the richness of their musical experience. With his talent and experiences in tow, he ventured down south to Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia where a new world opened up.
During his tenure at Morehouse College, Alex was section leader in the Morehouse College Marching and Concert Bands. He was also the principal solo trumpet in the Morehouse Jazz Band. His riveting and heart-felt playing style earned him a number of awards like the “Most Outstanding Brass Player” and the “Most Outstanding Soloist” in the Jazz and Concert Bands. From his Morehouse days, Alex’s talents exploded.
Starting off as a trumpeter and flugel horn performer in a local Atlanta band named Sirius B, Alex had a platform in which to show off his many talents. While in Sirius B, he performed for the 1996 Summer Olympics and opened up for an up and coming artist, Laurnea. Not only was he playing his trumpet, but he was also doing lead and background vocals. Along with being a member of Sirius B, he joined another local Atlanta band called Jiva (Giant Step Records/ P-Vine Records [Japan]/Expansion). His trumpetflugel horn and vocals could be heard opening up and/or performing with the likes of Tina Turner (1997), Earl Klugh (1997), The Rippingtons (1998), Groove Collective (1998), Roy Ayers (1996, 2000), Luther Vandross (2001), Michael McDonald(2003), and https://www.tradebit.come(2004). His golden voice could even be heard during the Christmas holidays on a Coca-Cola radio commercial (1998), and in the Jomandi Productions rendition of “Black Nativity.” (1996-98, 2000)
His amazing accomplishments did not stop there. Alex was both a shareholder and artist at an independent record label, EarthSeed Music, LLC, where he flexed his muscles in a variety of different areas. Not only did he handle aspects of company administration and development, but he also used his plethora of musical talents in the areas of songwriting, producing, arranging, performing, and recording. The result was the Groovement compilation CD, a profound collaboration of soulful musicians expressing their artistic prowess, which include early songs from the artist, https://www.tradebit.come.
Alex also collaborated and has co-written songs with an extremely talented artist named Rhonda Thomas in which he performs a beautiful duet ballad entitled “The Matrimony” on her premier album “Breathe New Life”. Currently, Alex still performs with Jiva serving as their lead male vocalist and trumpetflugel horn soloist on their debut album “Sun and Moon” who will soon be releasing it’s next albulm within the 2007 year. He’s also linked with world renowned D.J. Kemit from his record label “Devine Recordings” co- producing and writing the current single named “Rush Hour” which features Takana Miamoto as piano soloist. The Rush Hour single will soon be released on the P-Vine Records (Japan) compilation in the mid-summer (July) along with the new Rush hour EP to be soon released in 2007.
Last but not least, Alex is a part of Transcendental Funk, one of Atlanta’s premier contemporary jazz and R&B bands. He co-writes, co-produces, and performs along side his partner, tenor saxophonist DeWayne Martin and has produced their first album entitled “Listening Pleasure” which features the song titled “Pleasure Island”. They are now working on their second upcoming project entitled “Feels Good” which also includes the song named “Feel Me.” These latest collaborative works and dynamic songs have all been featured on Atlanta’s premier jazz station WCLK (91.9 FM). Alex’s trumpet/flugel horn and vocals can also be heard gracing the Julie Dexter and Khari Simmons upcoming “Moon Bossa” album which will soon be released this early spring (2007).
As Alex forges onward, he aspires to bring his talents to the world to touch and inspire all that hear and feel his music. When asked where he sees his music going, he replies, “Music is not the destination – universal love is my destination through music.”
