Details:
Marcel Wittfeld is a guitarist, music producer and instructor living in Eagle Rock, California, just Northeast of downtown Los Angeles.

Born and raised in Germany, Marcel picked up the guitar at age 10 and began taking lessons from local teachers. In his teens, Marcel studied with Thomas Müller-Pering and Professor Tadashi Sasaki at the Conservatory of Cologne and attended numerous master classes. He also co-founded and operated the Six&Four music school in his German hometown before moving to the United States in 1995.

On the merits of a demo tape recorded at age 16, Marcel received a small write-up in Guitar For the Practicing Musician, America’s best-selling guitar magazine in the 1980’s. John Stix, the magazine’s editor-in-chief offered Marcel a recording and publishing deal with his record label, Guitar Recordings. Unfortunately, the small label which helped start the careers of guitarists like Blues Saraceno went out of business before Marcel was able to complete his first album. Rather than taking on the daunting task of finding another record deal for a contemporary instrumental rock album during the rise of Seattle Grunge, Marcel decided to put out his recordings independently. His self-produced 1994 debut was critically acclaimed and featured many talented guest musicians, like British guitar prodigy Thomas McRocklin and legendary drummer Jim Keltner, who had just finished recording Eric Clapton''s "From the Cradle." Marcel then went on to co-produce Thomas McRocklin''s first solo instrumental album, McRocklin 1991-1994.

In 1995, while briefly attending Musicians Institute in Hollywood, Marcel met guitar great Steve Vai’s manager, Ruta Sepetys. Ruta was full of praise for his talent and kindly introduced Steve to Marcel''s music. A few years later, Steve offered Marcel a recording deal with his fledgling label, Favored Nations. Feeling like his instrumental debut left nothing more to say as a guitarist’s guitarist, and wanting to pursue more vocal-oriented music, Marcel was flattered but ultimately abandoned the Favored Nations offer and focused on polishing his production skills. In the following years he worked as a freelance producer for various recording studios and countless artists of almost all genres. After many years of planning and construction Marcel recently completed his own music production facility. Eagle Rock Studios is a state-of the-art recording studio complex complete with a live performance and screening room for small showcases.

As a teenager Marcel discovered a passion for teaching and continues to enjoy mentoring a small group of select guitarists. In 2004 he founded the Music Learning Center, a private music school in historic Pasadena. Marcel''s dedication and skill as a teacher is reflected in the success of his students. The astonishing child prodigy Tim Callobre and “School of Rock” star Miranda Cosgrove are among his protégés.

The support of friends and a few die-hard fans finally convinced Marcel to begin work on another instrumental album, which is due to be released later this year. Besides joining friends'' bands for occasional live gigs at local venues such as the Hotel Café or the Roxy, Marcel is currently assembling a new band project. DeadLeafEcho is expected to hit the Los Angeles club circuit this summer.

Marcel dedicates his spare time to his wife Nancy, their baby daughter Alaia Sadie Lena and their three dogs, Skeye, Jack and Dachshund DeNiro.

"Impeccable!"
-Steve Vai

"This has been a revelation to me. If Wittfeld at 21 could turn out a guitar CD like this then what should we expect on his new CD. Woe to us older striving would-be guitarists. Here you find virtuoso playing in the vain of modern European guitarists like M. Eklundh but more hard rock orientated, better compositions and even better sound. It is peppered with short classical guitar gems and runs its 73 minute course with ever new surprises for the listener, especially if one is a guitarist himself. Unbelievable playing by all and it goes from rocking to threatening to classical and back. Grab it while you can and brace yourselves for Wittfeld s next one!"

"Los Angles guitarist Marcel Wittfeld possesses an over-the-top arsenal of contemporary electric guitar techniques, yet also has developed compositional chops and the sensitivity required to pull off convincing classical statements. Marcel Wittfeld, his new, independently released instrumental CD release completely demonstrates his top-notch musicianship and passionate, high tech guitar playing. Marcel Wittfeld was produced by Wittfeld, and contains worthy contributions by British guitar prodigy Thomas McRocklin and drummer Jim Keltner. Most noises (locomotives, whales) on the album were produced with Wittfeld''s guitar, even though no synthesizers, whammy pedals or harmonizers were used.

Wittfeld was born in 1972 in Aachen, West Germany, and he began classical guitar studies at the age of 11. Later, Wittfeld completed a degree program in classical guitar at the Academy of Music in Cologne as a member of Prof. Tadashi Sasaki''s master-class. He then completed his first demo at the age of 18, which led to a record deal and features in guitar magazines in Germany and the U.S.A. In addition, Wittfeld also found time to co-found the first German Institute for Guitar and Bass in Julich, Germany.
While Wittfeld owes an obvious debt to guitarist Steve Vai, one can sense he''s only scratched the surface of what he''s capable of producing. Elements of both Greg Howe and Ronnie Montrose stylings are also evident in his technique, and coupled with his classical background, make Wittfeld''s musical influences broader in scope than many young guitarists. In any event, Vai never recorded anything like the Marcel Wittfeld CD."

"This is one the most diverse CDs I own. With an amazing 18 songs and more than 70 minutes of instrumental guitar music, Marcel Wittfeld runs through classical, country, rock and metal. Marcel''s technique is what truly makes this CD a joy. While his use of fingerpicking is fabulous, he also blazes through some lines with fluid legato and speed picking. With great phrasing, his sliding between notes beckons to mind influences of Steve Vai.
I enjoyed the last two tracks most; "Divine Scars" and "Funny Farm". "Divine Scars", the heaviest and most chaotic tune on the CD, is just awesome. With Cacophony (Becker/Friedman) type harmonies, Marcel rips over heavy distorted chords displaying his speed and aggression. "Funny Farm" has some of the coolest changes. As diverse as this CD is, this song is packed with ton of time and style changes, displaying many of Marcel''s techniques all in one song and with a sense of humor.
Along special guests are drummer Jim Keltner (Eric Clapton) and 14 year old guitar prodigy Thomas McRocklin. Marcel also plays electric, acoustic 6 and 12 string guitars, bass, drum programming, grand piano, banjo, harmonica and sitar. There are some beautiful slower tunes on this CD, however, the faster, more upbeat songs are my favorites."
