The NEW THRILL PARADE is a goth-glam ensemble based out of Santa Cruz, CA, home of a hundred freak-rock noiseniks, a thousand flaxen-haired folkies, and the goddam Boardwalk. Taking their initial cues from the BIRTHDAY PARTY’s jazzy sleaze, ROXY MUSIC’s martini flash, and hints of farty BUTTHOLE SURFERS skronk, NTP has taken their frothy brew on a national tour with MAMMATUS, and released a self-titled EP (Mountain Landis Records) to great acclaim.
Now, with the help of RESIDUAL ECHOES/MAMMATUS drum beast Aron Monster at the boards, NTP have unleashed an inimitable new LP upon the world, humbly entitled UNIVERSAL SHAME. It will change the world.
Universal Shame stretches the band’s signature sound into more diverse and dramatic territory, alternating between pounding rhythmic thrust (Ululations, Ostrich), thick melodrama (Crooner, Peace Punch), and riffy rawk action (Body Ship, Who Let The Goths Out?). The icing on this cake is Amitai, a vocal acrobat, imagistic wordsmith, and pant-creaming showstopper rolled into one, whose collection of howls, chants, war whoops, and moody incantations truly puts Universal Shame over the top.
The New Thrill Parade finished a one-month West Coast tour this July and August to celebrate the release of Universal Shame, and will tour again quite soon. They have shared bills with the stinky likes of the CLOROX GIRLS, HOLY GHOST REVIVAL, NEED NEW BODY, DRUNK HORSE, STRIP MALL SEIZURES, WILLOWZ, MONSTER DUDES, TRAIN WRECK RIDERS, WHYSP, MY WAY MY LOVE, and SCIENCE OF YABRA, and routinely schools members of RESIDUAL ECHOES and MAMMATUS in Texas Hold ‘Em.
