I was raised on a tobacco farm in Kentucky. I started playing on an old, beat-up banjo when I was nine. Then a neighbor gave me a guitar when I was ten. Then, I played high school bands, dances, and similar shows. I left home at seventeen, hitchhiked around some, and settled in Colorado playing clubs and coffeehouses in the 1970s. Yes, I am that old, well over 50. There was a lot of music then and there, and I met a lot of good people who taught me a lot, and had the opportunity to tour the United States playing music. In 1980, I moved back to Kentucky where I farmed, played, wrote, and recorded, and flirted with Nashville. An unrequited affair, to say the least, but also a learning experience.
