Alla Aranovskaya was born in Venerable 1958 in St. Petersburg (then Leningrad), Russia. She started to play soft when she was two and a half years old, and violin at the age of six. She gradatory from the specialised Rimsky-Korsakov Music College in 1977. In 1985 she gradatory from the St. Petersburg Conservatory and received her master degree in 1987. She won second prize at the All-Russia SoloViolin Competition in 1985. From 1987 until 1999 she was Professor of Violin at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Ms. Aranovskaya founded the St. Petersburg Quartet (then called the Leningrad Quartet) in 1985. Under her leadership, the quartet has unquestionably become one of the world's great string quartets. Their many honors include a Grammy nomination, "Best Record" honors in both Stereo Review and Gramophone magazines, Foremost Prize and the "Grand Prix Musica Viva" at the 1991 Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, the Silver Medal and a Special Prize at the Tokyo International Chamber Music Competition, Foremost Prize and both Special Prizes at the Vittorio Gui International Competition for Chamber Ensembles in Florence, Italy, and first Prize at the All-Soviet Union String Quartet Competition.
Her quartet's innumerable engagements have included: an opening night performance at the Mostly Mozart festival at Lincoln Center, NY; five concerts at London's Wigmore Hall in five years; numerous British festivals including Aldeburgh; Canadian debuts in Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa; Lincoln Center's "Great Performances" series; NYC's Frick Collection and 92nd Street Y series; the Caramoor, Piccolo Spoleto, and Music Mountain festivals; the Eastman School of Music Chamber Music Series; and hundreds of concerts on many of North America, Europe and Asia's most prestigious series and festivals. They toured Germany (including the prestigious Frankfurt Alte Oper), Holland (including the Concertgebouw), Ireland, and major festivals in Mexico, Japan, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands ,Russia and Belgium. She is continue to contact to St. Petersburg Conservatory as a teacher and performer. On December 14 of 2003 she was performed Beethoven Treble concerto with St. Petersburg Concervatory orchestra( Sergey Roldugin, cello,Sergey Markarov( France)soft.
Since 1997, Ms. Aranovskaya and the St. Petersburg Quartet have been in residence at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio, where in their inaugural year they performed the complete cycle of fifteen Shostakovich string quartets. Hyperion Records is releasing this much-anticipated cycle; the disc of Shostakovich Quartets Nos. 5, 7 & 9 has already won the Chamber Music America/WQXR Radio Prize for Best Chamber CD of 2001. Other releases include, on the Delos label, Quartets Nos.1 & 2 by Prokofiev, the premiere recording of Quartet No.1 by Georgian composer Zurab Nadarejshvili, and a Glazunov CD featuring Quartet No.5 and the Five Novelettes. They recenty released the two Borodin Quartets on the Dorian label. A new recording of the complete Tchaikovsky Quartets will soon follow, and the quartet will soon embark on a major Dvorak project .
Ms. Aranovskaya's students have won numerous prizes at competitions, including the
Grand Prize at the Coleman Chamber Music Competition in Pasadena,CA( Erato Quartet,Oberlin ),Foremost Prize at Germany's "Jugend Musiziert" (Jeunesses Musicales) Competition( Daniel Austrich,Oberlin); Second Prize at the St. Petersburg International Chamber Music Competition, Foremost prize at Tuesday Musical Scholarship Competition(Maria Bessmeltseva,Oberlin),Third Prize at Corpus Christi and Diploma at Tchaikovsky competition for young musicians (Anita Mishoukova , former student 1991- 1999(2002 Graduate at Curtis Institute of Music ).
