BIOS... Ah yes... "bios". This is the place where I get to brag about myself. This is where I get to tell you that I've always had an interest in music since I was a little kid; that I used to play drums on the kitchen table with my spoon; that at 5 years old I used to stay in the bathroom, sitting on the toilet for what seemed like hours, just making up songs (now I sit on the toilet for hours for different reasons). This is also the place where I tell you that my mom always knew I was talented and encouraged me to pursue music as a career. Yep - this is where I get to put on a British accent, make like Madonna, and say "I always wanted to be a danca". OR, maybe I could tell you (over and over and over and over and over again) that I slept in my van and bathed in the sink of a San Diego coffee shop because I knew that if I sacrificed enough I would "make it" (wanna hear me yodel?).
But, that would be a gross exaggeration. I didn't grow up playing music, I didn't demonstrate phenomenal talent at an early age, I wasn't encouraged by members of my family to be a rock star, and I've never owned a van.
I guess, for me, the only thing I've ever really been drawn to is art. I've always loved seeing inside someone's soul through his or her art. Whether it is a painting, a poem, a song, whatever... I LOVE creativity. I think ALL art (when sincere) is good. I can appreciate anything turned inside out. ...it's a beautiful thing when someone is able to take what's on the inside and turn it out for the world to see; a beautiful thing when someone is willing to be that vulnerable and courageous.
So, this is my art. You may or may not relate, but I can assure you that it is real. It is me in my most vulnerable moments. It is a piece of my history, my questions and doubts, longings and fear, faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is Love...
