The pHormula''s biography
The pHormula is three emcees, AlpHamatic, ExaminE, and pHilosophy combined with DJ pHonics, The Sound Scientist, that create a style of Hip-Hop which is catchy, but not commercial. The pHormula is known for their high-energy performances and original hard hitting beats known to make fans throw up their hands and stomp their feet. As a group they are true to the art form intertwining turn table skills with insightful lyrics which form a style reminescent of the roots of hip-hop, while still crossing musical borders. The pHormula''s music always has the perfect balance of that vibe that might make you cry or might make you fight. Basically they give it to fans just like life.
Many people who have heard the pHormula''s music through CD Baby and/or https://www.tradebit.com compare it to Pharcyde, Tribe Called Quest and Outkast. However, the pHOrmula still proudly reps that their style is undefineable, like a black hole the way it attracts and sucks fans in, which is signature of their crowd moving performances.
Examine’s 1st solo album drops on June 1st 2006 and is entitled “Smelling Salts” signifying Examine’s transition from a dormant state of studying the philosophies of life and the many different styles of hip-hop to an active, animate, artist. The one and only “Smelling Salts” awoke Aaron J. Martin and the now there is Examine; an emcee who is always on the hungry hunt for a crowd hungry for hip-hop. Combined with that inpHamous underground crew that goes by the name of “The pHormula” the “Smelling Salts” wakes pHans up TO the NEW pHat, pHresh, but pHunky style that can make mimes crack a smile and goes back longer than the history of the crocodile, so seems out of this world like it’s from the X-Files, but rest assur you’ll adjust, just hit the dial.
Examine, a.k.a. Exam the pHan, a.k.a. the LineMan, a.k.a. Johnny Crumb Snatcher, is known around the crew as “Exam the man with the plan”. Examine is not only an emcee, but is also a producer and a graphic designer. He’s like the secret weapon of the pHormula. He’s always EXAMining, YOU KNOW, scoping shit out and analyzing those little details most people overlook CUZ he’s always putting in work down in the trenches scheming up another plan to snatch your last crumb! Examine is characterized by a unique conversion of sharply blunt intelligent lyrics that get straight to the point while still relaxing enough to tell y’all to quit stressing and just blaze a joint.
Examine was born as Aaron J. Martin on June 16th, 1984 approximately at high noon in the huge city of Casper, Wyoming (Sarcasm Level: High). On the real though, Examine is straight out the wood works of Wyoming, raised on welfare next to the trailer parks of North Casper where you can hear a whiskey-sour speech still, telling you to lie cheat and steal. Examine made out the bucket of crabs in the middle mapped cracks of rap with a full ride scholarship to attend the University of Oregon, where he earned his bachelor’s in philosophy. Since the world’s in a state of emergency, I’ve got mad urgency... Gotta get back to another track……..CHECK OUT THE pHormula’s NEW ALBUM “ WHAT THE FU@*!?” in June!!!!!!!!
AlpHamatic, a.k.a. Cody Hall, a.k.a. The Contender, a.k.a. A-Matic, a.k.a. AlpHa, a.k.a. The Most Unheard, is the youngest member of the pHOrmula at age 20 years, but is the member with the most recording experience. A-Matic is the type of cat that you know no matta happens, this cat will be rappin, World War III, Nuclear Winter, Ebola Virus---none of that is going to stop AlpHa;he''s too sick not to pursue this music with a ruthless movement to make it a useful unit in beatiful union of musical amusement. This is why A-Matic''s first piece of recording equipment was a tape recorder and a boom box---ghetto as pH^@K, but the type of ambition to blow up.
Starting at age 15, A-Matic was blazin out hot flows on demos with some other local emcees (including Examine and pHilosophy) in the Casper, Wyoming area under the name "Opposition". "Opposition" was never an official group for A-Matic or the others, but more like a statement of realization. A-Matic''s lyrics state it best when he raps "Against the Odds and We''re not going to faulter, There''s yours then ours, Opposition We Gotcha!" (off of The Smelling Salts, "The Pressa" track #4).
A-Matic''s personality and style is summarized by the above quotation and is why the group calls him "The Contender" cuz A-Matic is always restless and always challenging the system. A-Matic could win the lottery and ten minutes later be like "I''m bored". This mentalty was forged in the belly of the beast a.k.a. Casper, Wyoming, where just by listening to Hip-Hop A-Matic faced Opposition. Now this mentality is a spiritual way of life for A-Matic which is both his friend and his foe, what he reeps and what he soes.
