Details:
An innovative dance band from Western New York & Pennsylvania, Tunescape fearlessly explores the border between traditional music and modern groove. Inspired by the tunes of Ireland, New England, Quebec, Appalachia, and Sweden, Tunescape creates an unmistakeable sound of power and beauty.

The tunes on Your Face were inspired by our love of playing for dancers, audiences, and each other, and by our collective desire to experiment and have a good time. The arrangements strike a balance between the raw energy of contra dances and the delicacy of music for listening. In short, Your Face will inspire both your feet and your ears.

Tunescape is

Jodi Austin - keyboard
Tim Ball - fiddle
Rachel Bell - piano accordion
Peter Blue - button accordions, nyckelharpas, percussion
Nadine Dyskant-Miller - flute

Special Guest: Andrew Van Norstrand - guitars

Rachel Bell grew up playing piano and exploring a wide range of folk instruments. She went on to study music education at Houghton College and then earned a Master''s degree in piano performance from Bowling Green State University. Now focusing on accordion and wooden flute, she enjoys a busy gig schedule playing concerts and contra dances with Tunescape, Montage, and the Andrew and Noah VanNorstrand Band, as well as other occasional assemblages of musicians. She is admittedly addicted to composing and has a particular love for Quebecois, Scandinavian, and French music. The love of her life is her Italian-made, tone-chambered accordion named Alfredo.

Praised for his "soulful" and "inventive" playing, Tim Ball is known for his fluid, rhythmic fiddle style that lifts dancers'' feet and captures listeners'' ears. A recent graduate of the Ithaca College School of Music where he studied violin with Susan Waterbury, he brings training in classical music and jazz improvisation together with a love of contra dancing and a great respect for traditional music from New England, Ireland, and Quebec. Tim currently teaches violin and fiddle in Ithaca, New York, and plays for Contra and English Country Dances with Tunescape, Contrapasso, O''Shanigans, and others. Peter Blue decided to blow his first paycheck ever on one thing, and it turned out to be a mountain dulcimer. One thing led to another and he started calling contra dances in the mid 1970''s. He started adding percussion to his calling and now plays bones, bodhran, foot percussion, and hand drums for contra dances and concerts. He also plays diatonic accordions and nyckelharpas, having fallen in love with Quebecois and Swedish music, and calls dances as well. He recently stared off into space for over 2 hours.

Nadine Dyskant-Miller, flutist/foot-percussionist, is known for her rhythmic pulse, beautiful and
versatile tone, and breathtaking technique. She fell in love with classical flute at 8 years old and
contra dance music at 11. She is a prolific creator of tunes in many styles. She received a Double
Honors Preparatory Diploma in performance and composition from Eastman''s college-preparatory
division, and her String Trio won the 2009 Hanson Young Composers Competition and was performed
by Chamber Music Rochester. Nadine plays for concerts and dances with both Tunescape and
Confluence, and also is a popular guest with other groups. Nadine spends her free time making chain
maille jewelry, dancing, and enjoys photography and cucumbers. She is currently looking at music
colleges.
