Biography

Glasgow born and educated, Marion Martin first ‘trod the boards’ at the Empire Theatre Glasgow when she was just four years old. From that tender age she developed her natural singing and dancing talent through the experience of performing with leading entertainers in the concert halls of Scotland and England. Today she is acclaimed as one of the most dynamic and exciting singers Scotland has ever produced.

A beautiful, captivating entertainer, Marion Martin performs with a fire and passion that belies her angelic beauty. Her vocal range and versatility are simply amazing and her unique portrayal of everything she sings makes you feel you are hearing the song for the first time.

A phenomenal recording artist, Marion Martin was ‘discovered’ by EMI Music Producer Howard Gable. Her first album “Songs of Bonnie Scotland” has continued to sell non-stop world wide for over a thirty years! The reason for this unprecedented achievement is simple; no one before or since has sung the songs of Scotland with such passion, such intensity, such feeling, such beauty.

She burst into the spotlight with a stirring recording of “The Flower of Scotland” that created uproar when it was played on national radio. The phones ran hot and Marion Martin became an overnight media sensation. The album went ‘gold’ in four weeks and remained in the pop music charts for ten weeks. An unprecedented achievement for a recording of this genre.

The following year she recorded the hauntingly nostalgic “Always Argyll”. The lyrics of this immensely popular song mirrored her life story. It became a world wide hit and was chosen by Readers Digest to be part of their elite international collection of the most requested songs from the long running BBC program, Family Favourites.

During a promotional tour of her homeland to launch “Flower of Scotland”, the Lord Provost of Glasgow, Dr Michael Kelly, honoured Marion with a civic reception in recognition of her international music achievements as ‘An Ambassador of Scotland in Song’.

In a departure from her traditional sound, Marion released an album of the best contemporary popular songs of the twentieth century. Simply titled “My Way” it received rave reviews and widespread airplay. In recognition of the album’s popularity, the Victorian Arts Centre presented Marion Martin “Sings Her Way” at The Melbourne Concert Hall. The capacity audience gave her a standing ovation.

Marion Martin has entertained millions of people on stage and television. She has sung for the Pope, Royalty, with leading symphony orchestras, military bands, and at prestigious music festivals. She has performed in a variety of venues from the most prestigious concert halls in the world to the lonely stage of an outback performing arts centre. But no matter where or when Marion Martin appears on stage her audience gets everything she has to give.

Marion Martin is the consummate entertainer – stunning, captivating, witty and warm. Her performance is a sparkling cocktail of champagne musical memories and she is ‘simply brilliant with an audience’. Her lilting Scottish accent pulls at the heart and her disposition is as sweet as heather; but it is the rare quality and haunting beauty of her glorious sublime voice that reaches deep into the soul and stays there.
