Details:
Bette Midler writes: "Whether singing solo or singing her own harmonies, Maxene Andrews is always Divine. How wonderful to hear this voice again."

The very mention of The Andrews Sisters name is enough to conjure up visions of Mom and apple pie since their first hit in the late 1930''s, "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen." Their sound has been a symbol of happiness and hope for many Americans. They set the standard by which all future "girl groups" would be measured. Their parade of hits, each earning a Gold Record include: "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," "Beer Barrel Polka," "Pennsylvania Polka," "Rum And Coca Cola," "In Apple Blossom Time," "Don''t Sit Under The Apple Tree," and many more. All in all they recorded over 1800 songs and sold over 75 million records, and their sales increase every day.

LaVerne''s death in 1967 seemed to signal the end of an era, but when Bette Midler covered one of their all-time hits, "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," suddenly The Andrews Sisters were discovered by a whole new generation. To top it off, Maxene and Patty Andrews found themselves starring in their own smash hit Broadway show, "Over Here!" It was a show that introduced John Travolta, Treat William and Mary Lou Henner to the world, as well.

Maxene began touring with her own one-woman show in 1979, garnering rave reviews; for instance, Rex Reed wrote: "There are moments in her show-stopping act when all three of the Andrews Sisters seem to be haunting the stage, but the spotlight belongs to Maxene. She adds laurels to her already illustrious achievements..." And, The New York Times wrote: Maxene Andrews defines the phrase "song stylist." She continued her concert tours, appeared in musicals like Stephen Sondheim''s "Follies" and Charles Bush''s "Swingtime Canteen," until just before her death in 1995. She was almost 80 years old.

Now, it is your chance to hear Maxene, singing some of the songs that she was able to sing as one of The Andrews Sisters, and, it is also a chance to hear her sing songs that she wasn''t able to sing as one of The Andrews Sisters. These are some of her personal favorites, performed with some of the finest musicians in the world, including Chuck Mangione, Bucky Pizzarelli, Abe Most, Milt Hinton, Urbie Green, Al Ciola, Dick Hyman, Bobby Rosengarden, Stan Freeman, the Juillard String Quartet and the amazing soaring soprano of Anita Darian (well know for her work on The Tokens original recording of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and multiple recordings from Broadway to the Blues). You''ll also get to hear Maxene singing her own harmonies. There are 2 bonus tracks that will delight you, including the first solo recording by Maxene, done for Frank Loesser, who couldn''t believe that she nor her sisters could read music! ( If you want to hear more of her work with Loesser you can find the CD "An Evening With Frank Loesser." It''s a gem, and presents his original version of the first part of "The Most Happy Fella" with Maxene singing the role of Cleo.)

We wanted to create this first digital version of Maxene''s album to commemorate what would have been her 95th birthday. It''s been re-mastered and lit with many candles of love. Now, we invite you to, as Maxene used to say, "Sit back, relax, and come along with me."
