It’s an old story... I’ve been into music for as long as I can remember. I started playing in bands when I was 11, and working in clubs in San Diego county before I was 18. I had to spend breaks in the laundry mat across the street! Anyway, when I was 16, I met this guy named Tony Ortiz at a friend’s house. I knew right away that he was something really special. We played a few church dances and stayed in touch through the years. When we were 20, or so, we found ourselves in an all original band called Airplay. We wrote songs and had a great time for two or three years, playing odd gigs like opening for Ricky Nelson at the Roxy Theater in San Diego. Through a strange series of events, we even had a recording deal with an LA studio owner and producer named Ami Hadani. He had worked with Three Dog Night!!!

The band got hung up in a legal dispute with a bush league manager and an old Jaguar that just couldn’t be restored (I told you it was strange) and we all went our separate ways. I introduced Tony to a guy named Bob Davis who had his own band called The Monroes. Tony was the spark the band needed and they had a very successful run in the 80‘s, charting on Billboard with a great song called “What Do All The People Know”. You’ll find more about the band on Wikipedia if you follow this link. https://www.tradebit.com The Monroes broke up after their A&R guy was fired and they were reduced to orphans at the label and spent a couple of years in limbo.

Fast forward... I got a call from Tony letting me know that he was relocating back to San Diego. We had kept in touch for all those years, but never as band-mates. During that time, I had moved to LA, and had a fairly successful career as a recording engineer. I had built my own studio. Tony said he had been writing and had a few songs he’d like to play for me. I invited him to drive up and this record started that weekend with the recording of Heartbreak Road and Let That River Flow. We had a great time working together, and we kept chipping away at the project, trying to figure out what to do with it! As time went by, I realized that his music was just too good to keep just between Tony and I. My wife, Laurie, was really the driving force behind this movement. Once she gets a plan, whether it’s planting a garden or buying a house or building a recording studio, she just doesn’t stop until it’s completed! So I blame her.
There you have it...
Our goal is not to make money, although that would be nice. It’s to get the word out about Tony and his music. If you can’t afford to buy the record, send me an email, and I’ll send you the songs for FREE!!! It’s my record company; I can do what I want. And I want you to hear the music and spread the word.
