The Midwest’s own, THA BRAIN, https://www.tradebit.comtain Hook was born Brian Edwards in the heart of Kansas City, MO in 1980. Moving around different parts of town quite a bit for the first half of his childhood, Brian resided the majority of his adolescence on the south-side of KC with his hard-working mother. Brian was blessed to do well in most areas in school with little effort, and these same gifts would later play a part in the exceptional lyrical content and cleverness reflected in his rhymes. As early as age 9, Brian started spitting freestyles with older uncles and in the neighborhood. It was about age 12 when Brian joined his first rap group and became popular for his rapping abilities. From lunchroom freestyles, to school videos, and numerous talent shows, Brian consistently left listeners, of any walk of life, captivated and thoroughly impressed with his talent (from the neighborhood thugs to the classroom teachers). To date, he has “stuck out” and been compared among some of the most elite talent in hip-hop. Along the way he picked up the alias “THA BRAIN”, rooted from the often misspelling of his name, lyrical talent and intelligence. Record deals, countless hours at the studio, shows and a passion for the “rap game”, was countered by the low potential of “blowing up” in KC. THA BRAIN’s mom was always a strong advocate of education and his admiration for her and her wishes influenced him to pursue a higher education at HBCU, Langston U. This path put a pause on THA BRAIN’s rapping career, although continuing to gain many more fans at a larger scale. Fast forward to his arrival back to KC. As stated by a clever line he dropped in at age 15,“GOD gave me this rapping/wrapping gift, so Ima let all yall feel my presents/presence”, THA BRAIN has been driven by his lifelong dreams and God-given talent to present himself to the world in the form of brilliant hip-hop music. From rapping, to production, to ownership, THA BRAIN is ready to “Ghetter Done” (A 5th Lane song title). In addition to his extraordinary talent, he brings perspective from various angles to whom he accredits Almighty GOD for his many experiences (good and bad), a breathe of fresh air with his content and not to mention, one of his closest friends and the other half of his rap group 5th Lane, “VISION”.
Darmond Robinson, “VISION” (Given from his lyrical ability to paint pictures with rhymes) was born north of Kansas City in desolate, grimy, Waterloo, (H2O-loo) IA. As a youth he was always musically inclined. From dabbling with various instruments in elementary music classes, to memorizing every song with a catchy tune, he always had a natural ability to follow the patterns of music. As long as he can remember his family had always instilled a strong belief in God in his life. Hard times and the wrong crowd had “VISION” out until the street lights came on, and scheming on plans to make a quick dollar barely into his teens. Through the first half of his childhood, his mother (the only parent he had) worked long hours to support them. The course of life had them moving almost as many times as years he was on the earth and he believes that the move the Kansas City when (at age 14) actually forced him to start looking at another path in life. Athletic abilities and musical knowledge had him with a handful of friends within the first week of high school. That school can actually be labeled the birthplace of “5th Lane”. During that year he met “THA BRAIN.” “VISION” followed low profile route and natural intelligence to carry him through high school. After graduating he had a few opportunities to go to college, but temptations from the streets caused him to let that door close. Shortly thereafter, a conversation with “THA BRAIN” convinced him to begin freestyling his own rhymes as opposed to knowing everyone else’s catalog. From that moment he began “penning” his own rhymes and his learning curve for writing could rival the toughest Harvard professors. Every listener has paid respect to his rhyming ability no matter what their preconceived ideas were; often sending opponents back to the drawing board. Since the birth of “5th Lane” the goal has been to position themselves among rap’s elite and stake a place in hip-hop history… their own way, in their own “lane”. With that said you can often catch “VISION” somewhere bobbing his head working on the next hit.
