Details:
The New Queen’s Ha’Penny Consort has been performing regularly at Renaissance fairs in Northern California for more than 20 years, supporting the actors and guilds portraying the royal courts of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. We are pleased to present in this new album, An It Please your Grace, a selection of pieces that might have been played for Queen Elizabeth. The music ranges from lively dances by Caroso and Dowland, through lilting madrigals by Arcadelt, Youell and others; rousing drinking songs from Ravenscroft, and soft chansons by de Sermisy and Josquin: twenty-five tracks in all. The program is presented as a set of music that might have accompanied the Queen’s activities during a day at court. We provide album notes on the sources and composers of the pieces.
If you liked our previous album of Renaissance dance music, In Timely Measure Move, you will find this album a delightful expansion of our recorded repertoire.
