Details:
Grant Olsen writes all his songs on a guitar given to him by a hermit named Ron, who lives deep in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. In his day, Ron had been a stellar musician who''d performed with the likes of John Denver and Willie Nelson. For one reason or another, however, he''d given it all up and was living the hermit life when Grant happened to stumble upon his mountain cabin. The first track of Grant Olsen''s new album, entitled “Hawley,” is dedicated to Ron. It tells the story of his early life and how he came to be a musician in New York City during the late 1960''s.

Most of the songs from "Waterland" tell stories, which Grant delivers in his trademark style--straightforward and beautifully honest. "The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner" follows a young pilot shot down over Germany and taken prisoner during World War II. The title, and much of the imagery, are borrowed from Randall Jarrell''s powerful poem of the same name. In "Wallsburg," Grant details a family''s struggle to accept their daughter and her child, and her eventual retreat to a remote Western town.

Not all of Grant''s songs deal with tragedy. "Saturday Evening Post" is a declaration of love for a girl he never dared talk to. The final track, "Diddy Riese," is his requisite ode to summer. With his gentle melodies and signature guitar style, Grant paints pictures with every song.

For "Waterland," which is Grant''s sophomore album, he combines forces with bass player Leo Patrone, guitarist/vocalist Micah Dahl Anderson, and violinist Cedric Anderson. Grant''s two lovely sisters, Michelle and Diana, also appear on tracks five and ten, respectively.

"Whether you''re at home, school, work, or play, ''Waterland'' will take you straight to a warm, friendly place. A proverbial campfire, if you will. Grant''s soothing melodies and profound lyrics will leave you thinking deeply and loving home, wherever it may be. Listen and live!"

"Songs of woe for those running to or from meaning. The songwriting is basic and straightforward...and certain chord progressions are made intentionally recognizable to heighten the listener''s nostalgia, and thus, insert the listener''s experience as contrast."

"The ten track musical musings focus on the story-telling and a sense of place, rejuvenating folk with Grant Olsen''s unique sound. From first kisses, to 19th century poetry, to small Utah towns, to Peace Dog Beer Cave, Grant''s lyrics and musicality hold a certain nostalgia, embedded in what it means to exist...In its thirty minutes, ''Waterland'' develops a sense of reflection through pointed narratives but also through communal emotions of melancholy, loss, and happiness."
