English singer-songwriter Jemima Price and Polish writer and guitarist Mirek Latosek have collaborated to produce a impressive and sophisticated debut album. From the captivating and lyrical beauty of "Whatever You Like", to the excitable and gritty blues of title track "No Alibi For Alice", an expressive journey unravels threads of country, folk, jazz & blues where Jemima’s distinctive vocals shine with echoes of a Kate Bush-like quality. Dramatic Brown Land & Dust draws on two poems from an anthology of WW11 Airforce poetry and displays Mirek & Jemima’s mature song-writing skills, and overall the impression of this album is that of a sincere piece of work produced by themselves and Martin Smith; whose career as a producer, musician and writer has spanned the previous two decades including a term in the ELO. Bass legend Herbie Flowers and renowned Pedal Steel player BJ Cole also feature, and along with an adept performance from drummer and percussionist Sacha Trochet help to create a listening experience that is inspiring yet gently under-pinned with a subtle melancholy and nostalgia.
