Popcorn Sutton was a lifelong mountain moonshiner who made his high grade likker for more than 40 years. In 2008, Popcorn was arrested for selling moonshine to an undercover agent, and sentenced to federal prison. But he refused to go. Four days before his sentence was scheduled to begin, he took his own life while sitting inside his legendary green Ford. Even in death, Popcorn Sutton set the terms.
Outta Luck is based in Western North Carolina and plays throughout the Southeast. Their music is a mix of high energy country and classic rock. Singer Ali Randolph, guitarist Sam Mitchell, and bassist Raizen Kegley went into the studio in 2010 to record Popcorn Sutton. Ali wrote the song when Popcorn was still alive, but had to add the last two lines after his tragic death in March 2009.
