Biographical Sketch
Selected of God was birthed and established in the spirit of Larry Callahan in November, 2002 in the Gospel Music Mecca—Detroit, Michigan. Selected of God is a community based choir whose mission is to share the love of Jesus Christ through song.
Larry Callahan and S.O.G. released their first CD entitled, “Lift the Savior Up”, on November 24, 2007, to rave reviews. In November 2008, due to popular demand, the group re-released, “Lift the Savior Up”, in a Special Edition CD which included two bonus tracks.
Callahan and S.O.G. have been honored to grace the stage with some of Gospel Music’s premier talents such as: Dr. Dorinda Clark-Cole, Kurt Carr, Evelyn Turrentine-Agee, The Nashville Super Choir, Donald Lawrence, and Vanessa Bell-Armstrong to name a few. This versatile group of singers has also crossed musical genres by touring with Trace Adkins on the Alan Jackson tour. Selected of God backed Trace Adkins on his crossover gospel tune, “Muddy Water”. The choir’s travels have afforded them the opportunity to sing across the Continental United States, as well as London Ontario, Canada. S.O.G has also been a featured artist at the New Orleans Jazz Festival, and the 2003 Stellar Awards Show.
In 2008 and 2009, several awards have been bestowed upon this dynamic group. In recognition for their sound and overall presentation they were awarded the title of the 2008 “Best Small Choir” for the Detroit Region in the Verizon Wireless How Sweet the Sound choir competition. In the same year they also won the award for the “Best Choir” at Dr. Dorinda Clark-Cole’s annual Singer’s and Musician’s Conference. Determined to go to higher heights, and deeper depths as a musical entity, Selected of God re-entered the Verizon Wireless How Sweet the Sound choir competition and won the award for the “Best Small Choir”, in addition to winning the top prize of “Overall Winner” representing the Region in the Finals. Selected of God was the only small choir to advance to the final round in the multi city tour of the competition.
In May of 2010 the Lord allow Selected of God to record their second project " THE EVOLUTION" Live in Detroit, MI at Triumph Church Pastored by Solomon Kinloch. This project was produce by Stephen Anderson for daytimemuzquic. The Lord has placed his stamp of approval on the project
To witness the awesomely anointed music ministry of Larry Callahan and Selected of God is an opportunity to have an encounter with the power of Jesus Christ. The mixture of traditional and contemporary style reaches across age boundaries causing the listener to enjoy a message of hope in a risen Savior. Ultimately the goal of this group is to spread the message of a soon coming King and to Praise God in all that they do.
